국문 초록

이 논문은 성폭력 사건을 둘러싸고 이루어진 ‘가해자의 아내’의 발화가 남초 온라인 커뮤니티에서 어떤 의미와 효과를 갖는지에 대한 분석을 목적으로 한다. 분석 결과, ‘가해자의 아내’의 발화는 가족주의 담론과 결합하여 피해의 내용을 피해 여성의 성적자기결정권 침해에서 가정파괴로 재구성하였고, 이에 젠더 권력에 대한 문제제기는 근거 없는 것으로 치부되었다. 이와 동시에 ‘가해자의 아내’는 감정적이고, 주체성이 삭제된 무력한 존재로 재현됨으로써, A 커뮤니티 회원들의 ‘약자’를 돕는 ‘정의로운’ 남성성을 구축하는 효과를 낳고 있다. 이 연구는 현재 한국사회에서 ‘가해자의 아내’의 발화가 가족주의와 결합하여, 젠더 권력 관계에 대한 문제제기를 무력화하는 방식으로 작동하고 있으며, 이는 온라인 남초 커뮤니티에서의 남성-약자 서사에 정당성을 부여하는 것으로 귀결되고 있음을 보여준다. 이 연구는 현재 페미니즘과 미투 운동에 대한 백래시(Backlash)가 성폭력 피해를 가족주의적 담론 속에 위치시키고, 그 가족의 구성원인 ‘여성’을 특정 방식으로 재현하는 것을 통해 정당성을 확보하고 있음을 보여준다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to analyze the discursive effect of utterances by a wife of a sexual offender, who was convicted for groping in a restaurant. The wife insisted this conviction was unfair and reverse discrimination. This study focused on the responses to her argument in a men-oriented online community. This study shows the narrative, ‘good men who are the weak suffering from reverse discrimination’ is intensified and legitimated by the wife’s utterances. The specific position of a wife, a woman in a ‘normal’ family of a sexual offender made this legitimation possible. The argument of the wife, combined with familism discourse, changed the meaning of what is violated in this sexual violence case. It has become the family of the convicted men and his wife what is violated, while the victim was regarded as a home wrecker. This displacement undermines the feminist arguments problematizing the power relations based on gender. In addition, the specific representation of a wife of a sexual offender, an emotional and powerless being, constructed and strengthened a group identity of men who are just, reasonable, and generous to ‘the weak’. This study points out the legitimation of backlash against feminism movement is partially based on a specific deployment of sexual violence in familism discourse, and on a limited representation of women only as family members who are powerless and weak.
