국문 초록

이 연구는 예수의 우화 '위대한 잔치'를 둘러싸고 전개된 예수의 바리세인과 율법학자들과의 상호작용을 사회계층간의 갈등에 초점을 맞추어 해석사회학적으로 고찰함을 목적으로 한다. 특히 여기서는 상호작용의 과정이 개인의 사회적 위치에 의해 강한 영향을 받는다는 것을 전제로 하여 개인이 지니는 '정적 사회적 위치'와 '동적 사회적 위치'라는 대비적인 이념형을 설정하여 우화를 둘러싼 예수의 사건에 대한 분석적 틀로 사용하고 있다. 정적인 사회 적 위치는 개인에게 부여된 외재적 위치로 고정적인 위치이고 동적 사회적 위치는 대면관계의 현재적 상호작용 과정에서 만들어지는 역동적 위치라 할 수 있다. 낮은 정적 사회적 위치를 지닌 예수가 높은 정적 사회적 위치의 바리세인이나 율법학자들에 의해 도전을 받는 갈등적 상호작용의 상황에 놓이게 되는 데 그것은 그가 자신의 낮은 사회적 위치와 모순되는 사회적 행위를 보여 주었기 때문이다. 율법을 동원하여 예수의 낮은 사회적 위치를 확인시키고 예수를 딜레마에 빠트리려는 이들의 거듭된 도전에 대하여 높은 동적인 사회적 위치의 소유자인 예수는 결국 이들이 고수하고자 하는 사회윤리와 질서의 모순과 한계를 드러내는 한편 정적 사회적 위치에 바탕을 둔 명예와 위상의 허구를 밝혀내고 새로운 잔치의 모델을 제시하였다. 그것은 물질과 사회적 명예의 독점과 배타성을 바탕으로 하는 잔치가 아니라 물질적 나눔과 함께 인간의 존엄성과 명예가 함께 나누어지는 인격적인 공동체의 잔치라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This is an interpretive study of Jesus' parable of 'Great Banquet' centered on his conflicting interaction with the Pharisees and lawyers. Especially with the premise that the social interaction process itself is strongly influenced by the social status of participants, we have devised two ideal types of individual's social position. They are 'static social position' and 'dynamic social position.' The former is a fixed social position given by his or her external conditions such as wealth, job, and education, but the latter is a dynamic position being formed rightly in the midst of the current process of interaction. Jesus with a low static social position is situated in a conflicting circumstance in which the Pharisees and lawyers with high static social positions challenge him because he has shown some actions which are contradictory to his own social position. Mobilizing traditional laws and rules, they try to identify Jesus' low social status, and catch him in various dilemmas. However, Jesus with a high dynamic social position, repels their challenges by revealing the ill, limitation, and contradiction of the existing social order and the dominant social ethics that were based mostly on the morality of reciprocity and social distance. Finally, by way of narrating a parable of 'Great Banquet,' Jesus suggests a new model of banquet or party. It is not a party organized according to the exclusive interactional rules grounded on the monopoly of wealth and social honor, but an interactional community in which not only the material but also human dignity and honor are shared with each other.
