국문 초록

1950년대 후반은 원조를 통한 경제부흥이 본격화된 시기로서 당시 존재했던 기업들에게 원조 자금 배분 등이 어떻게 이루어졌으며 이들이 1960년대 중반 이후의 고도성장기에 어떻게 성장했는가를 분석하는 것은 한국 현대경제사 연구에서 매우 중요한 작업이다. 본 연구는 그 작업을 위한 토대 마련의 하나로서 1950년대 후반 제조업 회사의 DB를 구축하고 그 특징을 살펴보고자 한 것이다. 3개년의 ｢광업 및 제조업 사업체 명부｣와 1959년 ｢법인명부｣가 DB 구축에 사용되었다. 제조 기업 중 회사 형태를 띠고 있는 것은 10~20% 정도였으며 음료, 인쇄ㆍ출판 등의 업종에서 비중이 높았고 섬유, 신발ㆍ의류 등은 낮았다. 1959년초를 기준으로 1,500여개의 제조업 회사를 추출해낼 수 있었고 그 중 1,100개 정도의 회사는 설립년과 자본금을 확인할 수 있었다. 당시 제조업 회사의 80%는 해방 후에 설립된 것이었으며 해방 이전 설립된 회사의 대부 분은 음료품 제조업에 속했다. 자본금은 섬유, 유리 및 토석제품, 식료품 제조업에 66%가 몰려 있었다. 이것은 해방 전 양조업에 40%의 조선인 회사 자본이 집중돼 있었던 것과 대비를 보인다.

영문 초록

As the late 1950s was the start of economic reconstruction of the liberalized Korean economy, it is important to analyze how foreign assistances were allocated to individual firms and how those firms grew afterwards in the rapid growing Korean economy. This study is to build foundation for such analyses, making a database of manufacturing companies in the late 1950s. One corporation register for tax collection, and three issues of establishment registers based on nation-wide total inspection were used to make the database. One or two tenth of manufacturing establishments were in the form of companies: the rate was higher in beverage and printing industries, and lower in textile and apparels industries. About one and half thousand companies were found in the manufacturing sector in early 1959, of which about 11 hundreds have the information on age and capital amount. Eighty percent of manufacturing companies were established after the liberation while most of companies established before the liberation were in the beverage industry, especially alcohol. More than sixty percent of paid-in capital in late 1950s was concentrated in textile, glass and stone, and food industries. In contrast, forty percent of paid-in capital of Korean-owned companies in late 1930s was for production of alcoholic beverages.
