국문 초록

1962년에서 1965년까지 개최된 ‘제2차 바티칸공의회’는 가톨릭 역사 만이 아닌 그리스도교 역사에서 획기적 이정표이자 분수령이 된 사건으 로, 그 충격과 영향은 16세기 종교개혁에 맞먹을 것이다. 공의회의 목표는 ‘아조르나멘토’(Aggiornamento)라는 표어에 담겨 있는 ‘현대화’다. 즉 과학, 이성, 민주주의와 인권, 종교다원성과 같은 현대성에 적응하고 응답하기 위해 교회를 쇄신하는 것이다. 그중에서도 비그리스도교 종교에 대한 가톨릭교회의 관점과 태도의 변화—배타주의에서 포용주의로― 는 공의회의 중요한 역사적 유산 중 하나다. 이 글은 오늘날까지 가톨릭 종교 포용주의의 지도(地圖)와 나침반이 된 제2차 바티칸공의회의 공식 문헌인 〈비그리스도교와 교회의 관계에 대한 선언: 우리 시대(Nostra Aetate)〉(1965)의 신학적, 교회적 의미를 살펴본다.

영문 초록

The Second Vatican Ecumenical Council(1962-1965) marked a groundbreaking milestone and watershed not only in the history of Catholicism in particular but also of Christianity in general, the impact and influence of which might be equivalent to that of the Reformation of the sixteenth century. The goal of the Council was ‘modernization’, which is implied in its motto “Aggiornamento”, meaning “a bringing up to date.” It is to reform the church in order to adapt and respond to the modern realities, such as science, reason, democracy, human rights, and religious plurality. Of them, the Catholic Church’s change in her perspective and attitude toward non-Christian religions has been the most important historical legacy of the Council. Thus, this article examines the theological and ecclesial meaning of the conciliar “Declaration on the Relation of the Church with Non-Christian Religions”(1965), which has been a map and compass of the religious inclusivism of the Catholic Church today.
