국문 초록

본 연구는 2014년 한국복지패널조사 자료 중 만 30세 이상 성인들(N=10,405)을 30-64세 중장년층과 65세 이상 노인으로 구분하여 연구대상자들 및 그들 부모의 사회경제적 지위와 만성질환 이환과의 관계를 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 연구대상자들의 특성별 만성질환 이환률을 살펴보았고, 로지스틱 회귀분석을 시행하여 연구대상자들 및 그들 부모의 사회경제적 지위가 어떤 관계를 맺으면서 연구대상자들의 만성질환에 영향을 미치는지 파악하고자 하였다. 그 결과, 중장년층의 경우, 교육 수준과 경제적 수준으로 대표되는 사회경제적 지위가 낮을수록 만성질환 이환의 가능성은 높았다. 그러나 이는 부모의 경제적 자본의 연구대상자들의 교육수준(연구대상자들의 제도화된 문화적 자본)으로의 이전(자본이전 상호작용), 연구대상자들의 교육수준(제도화된 문화적 자본)의 경제적 자본으로의 전환(자본취득 상호작용)의 결과이다. 이러한 맥락에서 자본이전 상호작용, 자본취득 상호작용으로 표현되는 자본 상호작용은 만성질환 이환의 사회경제적 불평등을 생산하는 중요한 기전이라는 점을 확인하였다. 향후 본 연구가 가지고 있는 한계들을 극복할 수 있는 심도 깊은 연구가 수행된다면 만성질환관리 및 사회경제적 지위에 따른 만성질환 이환의 불평등에 효과적으로 개입할 수 있는 방안수립에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to investigate the capital interplays effects on the chronic disease morbidity of respondents. We applied binary logistic regression modelling to chronic disease morbidity in cross-sectional survey data from the 2014 Korea Welfare Panel Study(N=10,405). We found that childhood economic conditions (parental economic capital) manifested independent and statistically significant negative associations with the chronic disease morbidity of their middle aged adult children. The education of the respondents(institutionalized cultural capital) themselves was also strongly associated with chronic disease in the expected direction, and a large portion of the association between childhood economic conditions and chronic disease were explained by the educational credentials of the respondent. Household income(economic capital) was negatively associated with chronic disease, and a large portion of the association between respondent education and chronic disease morbidity was explained by household income. Finally, the capitals held by the parents were not associated with the chronic disease morbidity of the respondents over and above the capitals held by the respondents themselves. Our study illuminates the importance of the capital interplays for the development of chronic disease morbidity among adults in South Korea.
