국문 초록

이 글에서는 우리나라의 학생들이 학업에서의 성취를 위해 공교육과 그림자교육 사이를 자유롭게 넘나드는 현상에 주목하였다. 이에 따라 탈경계(trans-boundary) 개념에 근거하여 변화하는 학습 문화를 다섯 가지 용어로 해석하고 이를 이론화시키고자 하였다. 연구문제를 해결하기 위해 우리나라 학생들의 학습 문화를 명료하게 드러낼 수 있는 질적연구방법을 선택하였다. 학생, 학부모, 학교 교사, 학원 교사를 의도적으로 표집하고 이들의 경험을 이끌어낼 수 있는 심층면담, 문서분석을 집중적으로 실시하였다. 연구의 결과로 드러난 사실은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 시간과 공간의 복합이 일어나고 있었다. 둘째, 학생들이 학습 자료를 통섭하고 있었다. 셋째, 학습에서 의사결정 주체가 전환되고 있었다. 넷째, 기존에 확립되어 있던 학습의 개념이 융합되고 있었다. 다섯째, 다양한 성취 모델이 나타고 그것들이 공존하고 있었다. 이러한 다섯 가지의 문화적 현상은 학생들이 학습의 경계와 장애물들을 뛰어넘어 자신들에게 최대한 유리한 방향으로 학습 환경을 조성하고 있다는 사실을 의미하고 있었다. 이러한 문화적 현상은 지금까지 우리가 믿어 의심치 않았던 교육과정, 교재, 좋은 수업, 학습, 성취, 생활 등과 같은 전통적인 개념과 신념들에 대해 다시 한 번 생각할 것을 요구하고 있다. 학생들이 실제 경험하는 교육의 문화를 탐구하고 그 들의 생활 세계를 심층적으로 파헤치는 연구들이 활발히 수행되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Under the situation that Korean students use shadow education as alternative educational practices for their success at school and college admission, shadow education is importantly used as much as public schooling. It could be argued that the school curriculum and instruction are no longer the major space for their academic learning and success. If the shadow education is necessary and helpful for their personal purpose in relation to their school and their future, students gladly choose and change the shadow education learning for school success. From this perspective, this research attempted to understand how Korean students use shadow education with public schooling, and aimed to discover how new importation of shadow education to their school learning has changed their learning culture which previously had only relied on schooling. For the purpose, the concept of transboundary was borrowed from postmodernism, and was applied to analyze the qualitative data collected from intensive interviewing, participant observation, and document analysis. As a result, the following features were identified as research results, which can be assumed that Korean students had creatively developed and used for their everyday learning under a very competitive learning environment: (1) Complex of learning space; (2) Consilience of learning materials; (3) Conversion of decision subjects; (4) Fusion of learning concepts; (5) Coexistence of various achievement models.
