국문 초록

본 연구는 현재 한국의 자립생활이념의 원류를 이해하기 위한 일환으로, 한국에서 장애인자립생활센터를 개시하는 데 큰 영향을 끼친 일본 〈휴먼케어협회〉의 설립 경위를 탐색하고, 자립생활이념이 형성되어가는 과정과 자립생활의 실체에 대해 역사적 연구법을 사용하여 분석하고 있다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자립(생활)의 개념은 시기별ㆍ인물별로 차이가 있었다. 둘째, 각 시기별로 자립(생활)의 개념은 단일 개념이 아닌, 복합적 개념으로 혼용되었다. 셋째, 용어 사용의 시점과 용어가 갖는 이념의 침투 시점은 동일하지 않다. 마지막으로, 시기별로 일관되게 나타나는 주요 개념은 욕구의 인식과 해결을 위한 주체성의 강조라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the establishment of the Japanese Human Care Association which had a great influence on the initiation of the Independent Living Center for the Disabled in Korea as part of understanding the origin of Korea’s independence philosophy. Based on the historical study, the process of how independent living philosophy was formed, as well as how it is defined were analyzed. The results of the study are as follows. First, the concept of independence (independent living) was different by period and individual. Second, the concept of independence (independent living) was defined with complexity rather than a single concept. Third, the period at which a term is used does not coincide with establishment of the terminology. Finally, a central concept emerges across different time period as an emphasis on subjectivity for recognition and resolution of needs.
