국문 초록

2018년은 김정은이 육성 신년사를 발표한지 6년이 되는 해이다. 김정은 시대의 북한은 김정일 시대와는 다른 빠른 변화와 역동성을 보여주고 있다. 특히, 2018년 김정은이 발표한 신년사는 예전과 달리 남한을 향해 우호적인 메시지를 직접적으로 주었고 남한정부의 평창올림픽에서의 남북 단일팀 구성과 같은 적극적인 행보를 시작으로 1차 2차 남북 정상회담에 이어 북미 정상회 담이 6월 12일에 싱가폴에서 열렸다. 1948년 분단 이후 70년만에 북미정상들의 만남이다. 본 연구는 급변하는 정세 속에서 전향적인 행보를 보이고 있는 북한 최고지도자 김정은 리더십 유형의 존재 여부에 관한 현실적인 문제제기가 출발점이 되었다. 그 동안 북한 최고 지도자 리더십 유형에 관한 연구는 대부분 구조적, 거시적인 접근과 같은 체제중심적 연구에 머무르면서 지도자의 언어를 담고 있는 담화문에서 보이고 있는 리더십 이미지와 개인적 특성간의 상관성과 같은 미시적 접근방법에 대한 크게 관심을 기울이지 않았고 이를 통한 리더십 유형화에 관한 연구는 간과해 왔다. 본 연구는 미시적 접근이면서 개인의 특성을 밝혀주는데 유의미한 동기이미지 연구를 통해 김정은 육성신년사를 분석하였다. 선행연구인 『김정일선집』을 통해서 본 동기이미지 분석 결과 리더의 개인적 특성은 부문별 분석에서 보이고 있는 리더십 이미지와의 결합을 통해 변화하는 대내외적인 상황에 따라 미세한 변화를 보인 것으로 나타났다. 다시 말해 담화문에서 드러나는 지도자의 개인적 특성 변화는 단순히 지도자 이미지를 부여하는데 그치지 않고 북한주민으로 하여금 북한체제에 순응하도록 촉구하면서 체제를 유지하는 역할을 하고 있었던 것이다. 북한 최고지도자의 언어를 담은 김정은의 육성 신년사 역시 대중과의 관계를 유지·지속시켜 체제를 지탱할 수 있는 역할을 할 뿐만 아니라 지도자에게 지배의 정당성을 부여하며 권한을 강화시키고 상황에 따라 적응하는 최고지도자의 리더십의 변화를 보여주는 지표로 의미가 있을 것으로 기대한다. 선행연구를 통해 지도자의 리더십 유형은 개인적 특성과 상황적인 요소와 상관관 계가 있으며 상황적 요소들을 바꾸어 주면 리더십의 변화를 야기 시킬 수 있다는 시사점을 얻을수 있었기 때문이다. 오랜 시간 심리학에서 논쟁이 되었던 것 중에 인간의 행동이 본래 갖고 있는 것 때문에 나타 나는지 상황에 적응하면서 변화하는지 하는 문제였다. 결론은 둘 다 영향을 미친다는 것이다. 본논문의 의의를 북한 최고지도자 김정일 동기이미지 추이 분석에 이은 후속 연구라는 점에 의미를 부여한다면 지금의 북한 최고지도자 김정은에 관한 연구의 폭을 넓혀 줄 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

2018 is the sixth year Kim Jong Un has given a new year s speech. North Korea under Kim Jong Un era shows fast changes and dynamics not seen under Kim Jong Il. Especially, the 2018 new year’s speech of Kim Jong Un is different from the past years since it contains a friendly message toward South Korea and beginning with the constitution of a single team at the Pyongchang Olympics and followed by the 1st and 2nd summit between the two Koreas, the USA-North Korea summit was held in Singapore on June 12. The meeting between the US and North Korea comes 70 years after the separation of the two Koreas in 1948. This study started with the real life problem posing of the existence of leadership patterns of the Supreme Leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un who is showing a forward-looking approach in an era of fast changing political environment. Until now studies on the leadership patterns of North Korea Supreme Leader have mostly been carried out with a structural and macro approach focusing on the study of the system. The micro approach of studying leadership patterns through the leadership image of the Supreme Leader shown in his speeches and its correlation with his personal characteristics has been neglected. The present study has analyzed the new year’s speeches of Kim Jong Un by adopting a micro approach of studying the motive imagery that is meaningful to shed light on the personal characteristics. Based on the analysis of motive imagery through “Kim Jong Il’s Sonjib”, and by combining the leadership image shown from the sectorial content analysis, the personal characteristics of the leader showed minute changes according to the changing external and internal situation. In other words, the changes of the leader’s personal characteristics shown in the speeches not only instill the image of the leader but also plays the role of urging the North Korean population to comply with the system and thus maintaining the regime. The New Year’s speeches of Kim Jong Un hold the language of the Supreme Leader of North Korea, and de facto not only plays the role of maintaining, developing the relations with the population and sustaining the regime but also giving legitimacy to the domination of the leader, strengthening his power and hopefully giving meaningful indications of the adjustment in the leadership of the Supreme Leader according to the situation. Previous studies have shown the correlation between the leadership patterns of the leader, the personal characteristics, and the situational factors and that if the situational factors are changed, it will result in a change of leadership pattern. One of the oldest debate in the field of psychology was whether the human behavior is changing because of its intrinsic nature or because adjusting itself to the situation. The conclusion is that both will influence the change. If this paper could be viewed as follow-up study of the motive imagery trend analysis of North Korea Supreme Leader Kim Jong Il, it could widen the scope of study of the current North Korea Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.
