국문 초록

1960~70년대 한국의 정신의학계는 정신분석을 기반으로 한 역동정신의학과 더불어, 정신질환에 있어 한국인의 사회문화적 특수성과 주체성이 강조되는 문화정신의학이 유행하였다. 이러한 학문적 조류 가운데 정신의학자 한동세는 한국인의 정신적 특성을 동서양의 이분법에 입각한 동양적 정체성으로 규정하고, 여성에 대한 성적 억압과 성을 말하지 않음 을 한국인의 젠더·섹슈얼리티적 특성으로 보았다. 여성에 대한 그의 편견은 학술논문보다 대중매체에 기고한 글에서 보다 적나라하게 드러났고, 비규범적 성애·성별 실천을 다룬 그의 논문에서는 이러한 한국인의 젠더·섹슈얼리티적 특성 때문에 한국에서는 애초에 “성도착증”이 적게 나타난다는 주장을 다시금 학술적으로 정당화했다. 이는 역동정신의학과 사회정신의학 양자 모두의 측면에서, 낙인과 관련된 사회적 특성을 학술적 분석의 대상이 아니라 전제로 삼은 결과였다. 이러한 한계에도 불구하고 이 연구는 1980년대까지 “성도착증” 연구의 연구사로 인용되었다. 이렇듯 특정한 사회문화적 정체성을 “본성”으로 이해하는 것은, 여성 및 비규범적 성애·성별 실천에 대한 인지적이고 체계적인 배제를 불러왔다.

영문 초록

In 1950-60s’ South Korea, cultural psychiatry that emphasis on Korean sociocultural characteristics and individuality, in addition to dynamic psychiatry based on psychoanalysis prevailed among mental health professionals. Under the academic circumstances, Dr. Hahn Dongse, psychiatrist, prescribed Korean mental characteristics as oriental identity based on the dichotomy of the orient and the occident. Sexual oppression of women and ‘non-existence of sexual discourse’, Hahn referred, could seen as a Korean nature of gender and sexuality. His bigoted view on women could be found plainly on popular media than his academic papers, moreover in his thesis about non-normative sexual and gender practices, he went forward to justify his assertion that “sexual perversions” are less observed than West because of the nature. This argument had derived because he took the social property of stigma as his premise, not for a subject to analyze, in the both aspects of dynamic and social psychiatry. Despite its limitations, research of Hahn often referred as studies of “sexual perversion” in the research history until 1980s. His prescription that certain sociocultural identity as a “nature” led to cognitive and systemic exclusion of women and non-normative sexual and gender practices.
