국문 초록

본 연구는 IFRS 위험 공시를 항공업의 실제 사례를 통해 이해하고 항공업의 위험관리 실태와 파생상품 사용 및 위험회피회계를 통한 위험관리활동에 대한 현황을 분석할 목적으로 수행되었다. 사례 분석 방법으로 연구하였으며, 특히 대한항공의 위험회피회계 중단 사례를 통해 종전 위험회피회계 기준의 문제점을 검토해 볼 수 있다. 연구 결과, 우선 항공업의 위험공시는 실질과 유사하지만 공시 방법의 측면에서 일부 차이가 확인되었다. 둘째, 항공업은 이자율위험, 환위험, 유가변동위험에 비해 매우 높은 순이익 및 영업이익 변동성을 나타냈다. 마지막으로 항공업의 파생상품 사용이 예상과 달리 낮았으며, 위험회피회계는 현재 거의 적용하고 있지 않았다. 본 연구는 IFRS 위험 공시에 대한 교육 및 위험공시와 파생상품을 통한 위험관리 연구의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

영문 초록

This study aims to understand the IFRS risk disclosure through practical cases of the airline industry. Also, we examine the current state of the risk management and the status of risk management activities with derivatives and hedge accounting in the airline industry. In particular, we also study the case that Korean Air discontinued the hedge accounting because they failed to meet the hedging criteria. Through the analysis we can catch some problems of the previous hedge accounting standards. As a result of the study, first of all, the risk disclosure of airline industry is similar in substance, but some differences exist in terms of disclosure method. Secondly, the airline industry showed very high volatility of net income and operating income compared to the volatility of interest rate risk, foreign exchange rate risk and oil price risk. Finally, the use of derivatives in the airline industry was lower than anticipated, and hedge accounting has been rarely applied presently. This study can be used as basic sources for education and the risk disclosure of IFRS and risk management research.
