전통 어린이 놀이에서 나타난 ‘놀이’의 의미

국문 초록

본 연구는 전통 어린이 놀이의 유래, 방법, 놀이 모습을 해석함으로써 놀이의 의미를 도출하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 유아교육에서 놀이의 의미를 논의하는 것에 본 연구의 필요성 및 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 총 57개의 전통 어린이 놀이를 분석하였다. 분석 과정은 1차 범주화를 통해 놀이의 형태를 분류하였고, 2차 범주화에서는 각각의 놀이 형태를 유형화 하였다. 이를 바탕으로 하여 놀이의 의미를 도출하였다. 연구 결과, 전통 어린이 놀이에 나타난 놀이의 의미는 첫째, 놀이를 지속하게 하는 놀이 내용의 변형이다. 전통 어린이 놀이는 정해진 결과를 지향하지 않고 정해진 규칙의 지배를 받지 않으며 위험의 감수 없이 자유롭게 변신함으로써 놀이가 지속되었다고 볼 수있다. 둘째, 세계와의 상호작용을 통한 놀이의 발현이다. 어린이는 어린이의 주변 세계에서 쉽게 만나는 물질들과 상호작용 하며 놀이를 만들어 나가면서 그 놀이를 지속하였다. 셋째, 과정 자체로서 놀이이다. 어린이는 또래와 함께 놀이하는 그 과정 안에서 일어나는 현상에 반응하며 흥미를 느꼈 고, 과정 자체를 즐기는 모습을 보였다. 이를 통한 유아교육 현장에서 놀이의 논의점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 놀이는 어린이가 살아가고 있는 경험 안에서 이뤄져야 한다. 둘째, 놀이는 교사와 어린이가 함께 만들어 가야한다. 셋째, 어린이의 놀이는 과정 자체로서 존중 받아야 한다는 점이다.

영문 초록

This study attempts to discover the meaning of ‘play’ in the Korean traditional children s play. By analyzing a total of 57 traditional play’s origin, images and different ways to play, this paper aims at discussing the meaning of ‘play’ in childhood education. As a results, it finds out the three meanings of ‘play’ from the traditional children play. Firstly, the traditional children’s play keeps transforming its form contents of play. In order to continue the play, children tend to freely play without any pressure of breaking the rules of the play and having a fixed outcome throughout the play. Secondly, children are provoking the world by interacting with the materials they encountered everyday lives through the traditional play. Children continue the play as the way that they freely interaction the materials in the world. Thirdly, the heart of free play is in the process of playing it. With their peer groups, children show their interest in reacting to the different phenomena that occur in the process of play and become enjoy the play itself. These three meanings of play from the Korean traditional children’s play, suggest particular significance in early childhood education practice: Play should be played in the experiences that children are living. play should be built together by teachers and children, and children’s play should be respected as a process itself.
