국문 초록

본 연구는 자율적인 장인 단련운동이라 할 프랑스의 꼼빠뇽 운동의 운영방식을 살피고 있다. 필자는 이 운동이 어떻게 전근대적인 사회의 유물로 간주되는 장인문화를 지금까지 성공적으로 보존할 수 있었는지 질문하고자 했다. 이를 위해 필자는 프랑스 꼼빠뇽 운동을 대표하는 꼼빠뇽 드 드부아 협회를 탐방하고, 직종별 장인들로 구성되어 있는 협회의 장인 들을 인터뷰하여, 꼼빠뇽 제도의 역사와 현황을 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 꼼빠뇽 운동의 프랑스 일주(Tour de france) 훈련과정의 독특성에 주목한다. 여행과 결합된 훈련과정은 각 지역의 꼼빠뇽 훈련기관 및 숙소에서의 공동취사과정을 포함한다. 이는 유연한 연대를 맺고 있는 장인집단공동체를 조성하며, 이곳의 생활은 선후배간의 쌍방향적 동료애를 북돋운다. 유연한 연대와 동료애는 꼼빠뇽 운동의 핵심적인 정체성을 구성한다. 꼼빠뇽의 전통적인 우선 의무는 “전달하는 것”이다. 지식의 전달은 꼼빠뇽 운동의 지속성을 보장한다. 꼼빠뇽 멤버들은 강력한 “지식의 연결고리”로 이어지기 때문이다.지식의 전달은 노동에 대한 경시가 아니라 노동에 대한 존중을 강조한다. 노동과 노동을 통한 상호 인정의 중요성에 대한 꼼빠뇽 운동의 강조는 운동의 인간주의에서 비롯된다. 의례, 가족을 모델로 삼은 사회적 조직과 지식을 통한 유대는 상호 연관 되어 있다. 기술이 초래한 탈숙련화에 맞서, 기술과 손노동의 조화를 강조하는 꼼빠뇽 운동의 지향점은 멈퍼 드가 추구하는 ‘기계적 조직의 완성’을 예시한다. 노동을 긍정하는 동시에 부정하는 현대 노동의 현장에서 꼼빠뇽 운동의 정신은 현대인들에게 ‘행복한 노동’의 가치를 제안한다.

영문 초록

This study started from the question “how could the culture of the artisans,” recognized as a relic of the Middle Ages, continue until modern times for 800 years in the compagnonnage movement. For this, compagnonnage members(artisans) representing each region of France were interviewed. The feature of the compagnonnage movement this study discovered is that the artisan group community has been maintained through compagnonnage training institutions distributed in each region during the trip through the Tour de France, and the interactive companionship between the seniors and juniors was being emphasized and observed through their life. They highly regarded the tradition of compagnonnage itself. Traditionally, the first obligation of compagnonnage is to “re-transmit.” This transmission of the knowledge helps lay the foundation for the identity of the compagnonnage movement. Compagnonnage members are connected to ‘a strong link of knowledge’, which is reinforced by a social group which modeled itself after the courtesy custom and the family. As such, the ‘transmission of knowledge’ has had a tradition of respect for human labor from the Middle Ages to modern times in the compagnonnage movement. That is, we can presume it has an appealing power to the human nature of getting along as being respected and recognized with laborers. It corresponds to a perspective of the completion of mechanic organization s Mumford, L. pursued through a new form of labor which is the harmony of skill and labor, disobeying the trend of deskilling caused by technological development. In the modern concept of labor, one has to affirm the labor on the one hand while also simultaneously denying it. The artisan culture of compagnonnage suggests a correct pathway of the labor as a happiness modern people pursue.
