국문 초록

본 연구는 루즈벨트 대통령에 대한 조명을 통해 그가 왜 미국 역사상 위대한 대통 령이었는지 그리고 루즈벨트 대통령이 다른 대통령과 차별되는 리더십은 무엇인지 밝히는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이를 위해 루즈벨트 대통령이 남기고 간 업적은 무엇이고 이러한 업적을 위해 보여주었던 그의 활동은 무엇이었는지를 알아본다. 미국 역사상 가장 어려운 시기에 대통령으로 취임하여 생을 마친 32대 루즈벨트 대통령은 위기를 기회로 만든 대통령이었으며, 주어진 기회를 잘 활용하여 현대 미국의 틀을 형성 한 대통령이었다. 그의 리더십과 업적은 현대 대통령들에게 무엇을 위해, 어떠한 방식 으로 역할을 수행해야 하는지 보여주고 있다. 대통령 한명의 리더십과 역할이 국민들의 삶 그리고 국가의 운명을 크게 바꿀 수있다는 점을 루즈벨트 대통령을 통해 알 수있었다. 루즈벨트 대통령에 대한 지속적인 연구와 평가는 리더십에 대한 연구 그리고 대통령학에 대한 연구에 커다란 도움이 될것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study examines the reasons why Franklin D. Roosevelt is recognized as one of the greatest presidents in U.S. Likewise, it aims at finding out which factors made him different from other presidents in terms of leadership. In order to do so, the study analyzes achievements he accomplished and examines a role he played in carrying out his political goals. Franklin D. Roosevelt was inaugurated during the most difficult time in the U.S. history. His successes resulted from his ability and efforts which turned crises into opportunities. In addition, he knew what he was required to make use of opportunities and to provide hope to the people. His leadership and achievements contributed to the current framework of Strong U.S and taught modern presidents how to carry out his/her tasks and duties. He showed us that one president could change a national destiny and the quality of the people’s life. A continuous study on Franklin D. Roosevelt leads to advances in our knowledge of the leadership and presidency.
