국문 초록

본고에서는 기능적 소득분배를 나타내는 노동소득분배율과 전체 및 지출부문별 GDP 간 장기 균형관계의 존재 여부와 방향을 검증하기 위해, OECD국가의 자료를 이용하여 패널 공적분 검정 및 추정과 인과관계 검정을 수행하였다. 주요 실증분석 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, Pedroni(1999, 2004)의 패널 공적분 검정을 수행한 결과, 노동소득분배율과 전체 및 지출부문별 GDP 사이에 통계적으로 유의한 공적분 관계가 존재하였다. 둘째, 노동소득분배율은 전체 GDP는 물론, 대부분의 지출부문별 GDP와 장기적으로 같은 방향으로 움직이는 공적분 관계를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 관계의 유의성 정도는 지출부문별로 다소 차이가 있는데, 소비가 가장 강하고 투자와 수출의 경우 상대적으로 약한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, Toda and Yamamoto(1995)의 인과관계 검정을 시행한 결과, 노동소득분배율에서 전체 GDP 및 소비, 투자로의 일방향 인과관계가 유의하게 나타났다. 장기 성 장전략으로서 ‘임금주도형 성장’ 또는 ‘소득주도성장’의 유효성에 의문이 제기되는 최근 상황에서, 본고의 장기추세 분석 결과는 유용한 정책적 시사점을 제기한다.

영문 초록

To investigate the empirical relation between functional income distribution and long-run growth, this paper tests and estimates the cointegration of labor income share with GDP and its demand components, employing OECD panel data. Main findings are as follows. First, applying Pedroni(1999, 2004) panel cointegration test, we find that labor income share is significantly cointegrated with GDP and its demand components. Second, as for the sign of cointegrating coefficients, labor income share is positively correlated with GDP and most of its demand components. However, there exist some differences in the magnitude of statistical significance across GDP’s demand components; private consumption is the most robustly cointegrated with labor income share, while investment and export are relatively weakly cointegrated. Third, applying Toda and Yamamoto(1995) causality test procedure, we find that there exists significant one-way causality from labor income share to GDP, private consumption, and investment. Recently, when the ‘wage-led’ or ‘income-led’ growth is suspected of its effectiveness as a long-run growth strategy, the long-run trend analysis of this paper has remarkable policy implications.
