수어로 풀어낸 농인 리더의 평생학습 경험의 의미와 가치 탐구

국문 초록

본 연구는 농인 리더의 삶과 평생학습의 경험을 심층적으로 이해하고자 농인 리더의 생애사를 살펴보고 이들의 삶 속에서 어떻게 평생학습이 이루어지는지를 탐색하며 평생학습 과정이 농인 리더에게 어떠한 의미를 주는지를 탐구한 연구이다. 4명의 농인 리더를 선정하여 이들의 평생학습적 삶의 과정을 Schütze(1984)가 제안한 생애사적 발달과정 분석방법을 기초로 해석하였다. 해석 결과 농인 리더들은 유년시절 청인가족이나 통합학교, 농학교의 환경 안에서 제도적 진행모델자로서의 생애사 주체성을 나타내었고 성인 초기에는 장애인에 대한 편견과 차별이 만연한 청인 중섬적 사회적 환경 속에서 원하는 취업이나 대입에 불이익을 당하며 평생학습을 하는데 장애를 경험했다. 하지만 이러한 불평등한 경험은 농인에게 필요한 권리를 의식할 수 있는 계기가 되었으며 특히 의사소통의 어려움에서 농인들의 언어인 수어의 권리를 인식했다. 더불어 계속적인 자기 평가로 자신의 한계점을 강점으로 전환, 이중문화 농정체성을 발달시키며 끊임없는 학습활동으로 본인의 역량을 강화시키며 세상에 맞섰다. 농인 리더들은 평생학습을 통해 청인중심사회에 흡수하는 것이 아닌 함께 어울리는 공존하는 사회에 다가갈 수 있는 전환과정을 이끌었다. 본 연구는 사회문화적 소수자들에게 소수자의 삶의 과정을 조명하여 이들의 자기개발의 가능성과 평 생학습의 중요성을 이해시키는데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the learning experience of the Deaf in their life and to inquire the meaning of these learning processes to them. Biographical research method was used, four participants were selected. Data were collected from narrative-based interviews and were analyzed based on the autobiographical narrative analysis suggested by Schütze (1984). The common features found among their narratives show that the learning experience was already initiated from their childhood. They developed decision making skills and could express their self-directed opinion through interaction with families and friends. After high school graduation, however, they became a ‘sufferer’ because prejudice and discrimination against them was rampant in the society. They had to give up the work and the college where they wished to belong. These social environments disabled their learning desires, nevertheless, they kept seeking learning opportunities, turned their weaknesses into strengths. These process developed Deaf identity, strengthen their abilities, informed the possibility to live together with both Deaf and hearing people. From their lifelong learning biography, the meanings of lifelong learning experiences were summarized as follows: First, the lifelong learning experience is the recognition process of ‘me’, who am I and what I can and what I could. Second, it gave them the chance to careful thought of the rights that the Deaf and Deaf community need, such as language and educational right. Third, they were able to learn the way both Deaf and hearing people either non-disabled and special needs people positively coexist.
