국문 초록

벤처캐피탈은 ‘고도의 기술력과 장래성은 있으나, 경영기반이 취약하여 일반 금융 기관에서 자금을 조달하기에는 위험이 큰 벤처기업’에 대한 투자와 지속적인 사후 관리를 통해 투자기업을 지원, 육성하는 중요한 역할을 수행하므로 벤처 생태계에서 중요한 구성요소에 해당된다. 본 논문에서는 벤처캐피탈 산업 현황 및 향후과제에 대해 살펴보고, 벤처캐피탈이 벤처기업에 투자할 경우에 고려하는 요인들과 벤처기업의 성공 및 실패에 영향을 미치는 요인들에 대해서도 연구해보았다. 연구의 방법은 이론적 고찰을 통해 벤처캐피탈의 투자결정 요인을 도출한 후 벤처캐피탈리스트의 설문결과를 바탕으로 경영진ㆍ직원의 자질, 시장상황, 시장변화 대응력, 경쟁상황, 제품차별성 등 상위 10개의 주요 투자결정요인을 확정하였으며, 투자기업 중 성공기업과 실패기업을 대상으로 성공 및 실패의 주요한 요인에 대해 조사하여 벤처캐피탈의 주요 투자결정요인과 비교, 분석하였다. 본 연구 결과는 벤처캐피탈산업을 이해하고 벤처캐피탈산업의 경쟁력 제고를 위한 과제를 제시하는 한편, 벤처캐피탈리스트에게는 성공적인 투자지침을 제공한다. 또한, 벤처기업 입장에서는 타 기업들의 성공, 실패 사례나 벤처캐피탈의 투자결정요인을 이해함으로써 시행착오를 줄일 수 있을 것으로 예상된다. 향후에는 벤처기업의 업종별, 사업 단계별 특성을 고려한 성공 및 실패요인에 대한 연구가 필요할 것이다. 또한, 벤처캐피탈산업의 경쟁력 제고를 위한 규제 완화 및 제도 변화 등에 대한 다양한 연구가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

Venture capital(VC) is a investment company primarily investing in newcompanies and ventures that have high growth potential but that are too risky to raise funds through the standard capital markets or bank loans. Since venture capital funding typically invollves both a significant cash outlay andmanagerial assistance, it can be instrumental for the growth of untried business venues with enormous potential. This study gives the information about venture capital which is helpful to venture company. And it also explores howVCmakes investment decisions and the influencing factors to success or failure of venture company. This study was conducted by the combination of preliminary study and the answer of venture capitalist. The main investment decision making factors are analysed into ten factors including management, market condition, flexibility to market change, competition, product differentiation. marketing ability, technology. This studywill significantly contribute to understand VC and various factors affecting to the investment decisionmaking of VC. And it can also provide useful guidelines to venture capital and venture company for reducing mistakes. And this study also suggested several opinions to develop the situation of venture capital industry and I expect many problems to be improved. The study which considers the venture business sectors and stages will be needed in the future. And the study to improve the policy about venture capital should be consistently conducted.
