성경과 속사도들의 저작들 속에 나타난 평화에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

최근 발생한 Daesh(영문 ISIS의 아랍어 축양형)의 테러들로 인한 결과는 테러발생국과 그 국가의 국제관계 뿐만 아니라 그 일로 죽음을 맞은 이들과 관계된 개개인들에게까지 평화가 어떻게 철저하게 깨어질 수 있는지를 보게 한다. 그래서 평화란 거시적으로 볼 때 전쟁의 부재를 의미하지만 미시적으로는 개인의 안정에까지 이어지는 연결고리다. 이 연결고리 중 하나에 문제가 나타나면 그것은 연쇄적으로 평화의 붕괴를 가져오는 힘이 있다. 이에 대한 복수 또한 상대민 족에게 더 큰 평화의 파괴를 가져오고 있다. 필자는 이같은 세상 가운데 진정한 평화는 가능한 것인지를 되묻게 된다. 결국 돌아와야 할 곳은 성경이다. 그리고 성경은 평화를 어떻게 설명하는지에 고민을 시작한다. 구약과 신약을 통해 추론 가능한 평화의 개념을 정리하며 얻을 수 있는 작은 결론은 다음과 같다. 비기독인들, 혹은 절대평화주의자들이 추구하는 평화와 성경이 의도하는 평화는 출발이 다르다는 것이다. 그리고 그 평화는 사람에 의해 이루어지는 것도 아니라는 것이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 모든 기독 인은 평화를 향한 노력과 수고를 하면서 살아야 하는 명령을 받았다. 그 시작은 한 개인의 영혼구원에서부터다. 이같은 성경의 가르침은 속사들의 교훈들 속에서도 나타난다. 필자는 『디다케』로부터 시작하여 『클레멘트 서신』, 『이그나티우스(Ignatius, c 35 - c 98)의 편지들』, 『디오그네투스에게 보내는 편지』, 『폴리카르푸스(Polycarpos, c 70 - c 155, 폴리캅)의 편지』 그리고 『터툴리아누스(Tertullianus, Quintus Septiminus Florens, c 155 - c 230)』에 이르기까지 평화와 관계된 용어와 주제를 중심으로 살폈다. 그리고 평화에 대한 성경의 교훈과 관심이 속사도 들에 이르는 동안 초기 기독교 공동체에서도 지속적으로 강조되었음을 확인했다. 또한 이 기록들 역시 평화의 시작이 바로 성경을 통해 내려진 위의 결론과 다르지 않음을 확인한다.

영문 초록

The recent terror attacks by Daesh revealed the fragility of our human being’s peace and the tormenting reality of broken peace for the nation and its national relations, not to speak of the casualties and their close members. State of peace is generally understood as that of without-war state; however, personal peace cannot be neglected. Inter-personal chain is so tightly co-webbed that damage to a single point of the chain is to influence another point and then leads to total collapse of peace. Any kind of counterattack always produces even more devastating result to the attacker. This study questioned whether it is possible to make peace come true in such a world. Ultimate answer to this question should be found in the bible, so the fact that what the bible teaches about peace was the main interest of this study. The reasonable conclusion drawn in the process of summarizing the concepts of peace in the Old Testament and New Testament was; The starting point about the meaning of peace for nonchristians, or extreme pacifists, and the bible is fundamentally different. Moreover, the “peace” cannot be achieved through our efforts. Nevertheless, every christian was called not to hesitate but to exert his/her influence to make this world peaceful. This call starts from saving “a soul”. Such teachings from the bible are also found in the lessons of Apostolic Fathers. This study focused on the terms and topics related to the notion, “peace”, found from Didache, Epistles of Clement, The Epistles of Ignatius, The Epistle to Diognetus, Polycarp s letters and Conffession, Tertullian. This study noticed that what the bible teaches about peace and what the bible’s main concern is were continuously emphasized throughout the early christians’ society and Apostolic Fathers. Through these documents, the conclusion of this study through the bible was confirmed to be identical to their starting point for peace.
