국문 초록

본 연구는 장애노인의 가족수발자를 위한 사회적 지지가 학대충동에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 총 279명의 장애노인를 위한 가족수발자가 본 연구에 참여하였으며, 구조화된 설문지를 통해 가족수발자 및 장애노인의 일반적 특성, 사회적 지지, 수발부담, 노인학대충동을 조사하였다. 연구결과 주로 중년의 여성이 장애노인의 수발자 역할을 수행하고 있었으며, 75세 이상의 여성노인이 신체적 또는 인지적 장애로 인해 요보호가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 기존연구와 동일하게 장애노인의 주거지역과 수발부담이 노인학대충동에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만, 기대와 달리 사회적 지지는 가족수발자가 경험하는 노인학대충동을 낮추지 못하는 것으로 보여주었다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 하여 신체적 또는 인지적 장애가 있는 노인을 돌보고 있는 가정 내에서 노인학대를 줄일 수 있는 사회복지 실천방안에 대해 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study examined the relationship between social support and caregivers’ impulsive feelings to commit elder abuse among Korean family caregivers who care for their older family members with disabilities. A total of 279 family caregivers for disabled older adults were recruited using the purposive sampling method. All participants were interviewed, using a structured questionnaire which included family caregivers’ characteristics, care-recipients’ characteristics, social support, caregiving burden, and impulsive feelings to commit elder abuse. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis were conducted to address the purpose of this study. The results showed that middle-aged women generally provided care for older adults with disabilities, and older women aged 75 to 85 years are more likely to have physical and/ or cognitive disabilities than older men aged 75 to 85 years. In addition, this study confirmed that geographic location and caregiving burden were significantly related with impulses to commit elder abuse. However, inconsistent with previous studies, the result presented that social support for family caregivers did not help to alleviate the level of impulsive feelings to commit elder abuse. Based on the findings of this study, implications for social work practice can be suggested. Social workers should be aware of the results that caregivers for care-recipients in rural areas are more likely to experience impulses to commit elder abuse, and caregiving burden is the strongest predictor of impulsive feelings to commit elder abuse. These family caregivers should be given priority in education programs and social services for older adults with disabilities.
