국문 초록

본고는 일본 天理大에 소장된 ≷泠齋 書種≸ 내의 ≷古芸堂筆記≸에 들어 있는, 泠齋 柳得恭(1749~1807)의 漢譯詩歌 <東人之歌>의 전체적 내용을 소개하며 한역된 원시가를 밝히고, <동인지가> 의 서문 및 한역시가가 지닌 내용적‧형 식적 특성을 전후대의 시가비평 및 시가한역의 역사적 흐름 속에서 고찰하여 <동인지가>가 지닌 사적 위상을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 먼저, <동 인지가> 서문이 지니고 있는 진보성을 살폈다. 거짓된 일부 한시체는 사라져 야 하고 민족어시가로 대체되어야 한다는 주장을 하였다는 점에서, 또한 민족어시가 중에서도 민중의 작품이 사대부가 지은 것보다 더 가치 있음을 단언하였다는 점에서 <동인지가> 서문은 전대의 시가론보다 한층 진보적인 면모를 보여준다. 다음으로, <동인지가> 내 한역시가들에 내재된 특징을 살폈 다. <동인지가>에서는 취락과 애정의 주제만을 다루었으며, 사설시조나 잡가 등 세속적인 장르들 또한 번역해 놓았다. 특히 애정 주제를 월등히 많이 다루었는데, 이전에는 한 번도 번역된바 없었던 노골적인 애정시조들을 한역함으로써 여항시가의 진면모를 포착할 수 있었다. 그러나 <동인지가>는 한역시가의 형식을 5언 절구로 고정시켜 놓았기에, 원시가를 충분히 재현하지 못했다는 한계 또한 지니고 있었다. 마지막으로, <동인지가>에 내재된 의미와 한계가 후대의 한역시가 작품들에서 각기 발전적으로 계승되거나 극복된 양상을 고찰하였다. <동인지가>에서 보여준 여항시가에 대한 포용은 이후 19세기의 한역시가들로 이어졌으며, <동인지가>의 형식적 한계는 7언 절구 라는 보다 적절한 한역시가 형식에 대한 모색을 통해 어느 정도 극복되었다. 무엇보다, 적극적인 시가비평과 시가 한역을 결합시킨 <동인지가>의 구성방 식은 이후 한역시가 작가들에게 계승 되어 선례가 되었음을 살폈다. 이상에서 보았을 때, 영재 유득공의 한역시가 <동인지가>는 전후대의 주요 시가비평및 한역시가들을 매개한 중추적인 작품이었음을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to clarify the characteristics of Dong-in-ji-ga, a collection of translated Korean vernacular poems by Ryu Deukgong, a prominent poet in the late Joseon period. Dong-in-ji-ga was recently found in a book of Ryu Deukgong, which is presently owned by Tenry University in Japan. I compared the preface and the poems of Dong-in-ji-ga to other critical comments and translations of Korean vernacular poems, which were created before or after Dong-in-ji-ga. Firstly, I investigated the progressiveness embedded in the preface of Dong-in-ji-ga. In this preface, Ryu Deukgong presented more progressive thoughts than his predecessors. He proclaimed that some kinds of false poems composed in classical Chinese must disappear and be substituted with Korean vernacular poems. He also argued that the vernacular poems of vulgar commoners overrode those of the literati in terms of literary value. Secondly, I scrutinized the literary characteristics embedded in Dong-in-ji-ga. Most of the poems in Dong-in-ji-ga are about secular pleasure, especially the love between a man and a woman. Those blunt love poems had never before been translated. Ryu Deukgong was able to grasp the true characteristics of commoners poems by selecting these kinds of poems in his collection. However, Dong-in-ji-ga also had limits with regard to its poetic form. It stuck to a complicated poetic form of the classical Chinese poetry for no apparent reason; because of this, it could not adequately represent the contents and expressions of the original vernacular poems. Lastly, I examined how the fruition and limits of Dong-in-ji-ga were inherited or overcome by later generations. Most of all, I emphasized the fact that Dong-in-ji-ga became a precedent for a series of translations of Korean vernacular poems accompanied by criticism, which became a cultural phenomenon in the literary world of the late Joseon period. In conclusion, Dong-in-ji-ga was a pivotal work that mediated the important literary criticism and translations of Korean vernacular poems, which were created in the late Joseon period.
