예술창작과정에서 체험하는 예술가의 직관과 학습

국문 초록

최근 직관의 문제는 창조성과 연계되어 교육학뿐 아니라 경영학, 심리학, 철학 등의 제반분야에서 관심을 받고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 직관의 실제 및 체험적 구조를 이해할 수 있는 시론적 탐색을 시도하면서, 평생학습의 상징적 모델이자 직관을 가장 중요한 능력으로 활용하는 예술가의 직관에 주목하였다. 이를 위해 의도적 표집방법에 의거한 미술작가 8명을 선정하여 현상학적 연구방법으로 접근하였다. 연구 결과, 직관의 경험은 “직관적 판단”과 “직관적 창조”라는 두 가지 층위로 구분되었다. “직관적 판단”이 무엇을 할지에 관련된 판단의 문제라면, “직관적 창조”는 이전에 존재하지 않았던 지식을 만들어내는 새로운 방식이라고 할 수 있다. 또한 직관의 경험은 인지적 경험을 넘어 정서적, 영적 경험과도 맞물리며 확장되었다. 이 과정에서 예술창작활동 전반에서 직관의 발현을 추동하는 세 가지 역동, 즉 ‘직관적 정신과정-분석적 정신과정’ 간의 역동, ‘자아의식의 통합-자아의식의 분리’ 간의 역동, ‘자유-통제’ 감각 간의 역동이 도출되었다. 각 역동들은 동시적으로 발생한다기보다 주기적으로 순환하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 종합된 직관은 양면적 차원에서 기능하는 것으로 나타났다. 창조성의 근간을 이루고 새로운 지식을 창출한다는 측면에서 직관은 극히 개별적인 능력이지만, 작가에게 필요한 직관은 또한 소통하는 능력이라는 점에서 보편적 근거 위에 있다. 이러한 직관의 능력은 교육과 학습을 통해 인간에게 기대되는 가장 핵심적인 능력이자 궁극적인 능력이라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study tackles recent problems that intuition has in connection with creativity, gaining attention not only from an education point of view but also in business administration, psychology, philosophy, etc. Accordingly, this research attempts an introductory exploration that helps one understand the actuality and experiential structure of intuition with focus on artists’ intuition, which is a symbolic model of lifetime learning, utilizing intuition as a very important ability. To do this, eight artists were recruited based on purposeful sampling, and with the research approached as a phenomenological study. As a result, the experience of intuition was divided into two levels of “intuitive judgment” and “intuitive creation.” If “intuitive judgment” is a problem of deciding what to do, “intuitive creation” is a new way of creating unprecedented knowledge. Moreover, the experience of intuition expanded beyond cognitive experience, interlocking with emotional and spiritual experience. In this process, three dynamics that drive the expression of intuition in the overall art creative activities were obtained: dynamics between ‘intuitive mental process and analytic mental process,’ dynamics between ‘integration of self-consciousness and separation of self-consciousness,’ and dynamics between senses of ‘freedom and control.’ Intuition combined through this research was revealed to function in the ambivalent level. Forming the base of creativity and creating new knowledge, intuition is a great individual ability; however, intuition required for artists is on universal basis as a communication ability. Such intuition ability can be considered as the most essential one that can be expected from humans through education and learning as well as an ultimate ability.
