영문 초록

Temperature, salinity, tranparency and water colour observations were carried out in the western parts of Kwangyang Bay, southern coast of Korea in January, May, July and October 1994 before the construction of Yulchon No.1 industrial complex which had been planned to construct in the western coast of the bay. It was found that the water masses in that area were roughly distributed in accordance with wafter depth. The water masses could be divided into four areas. First, the water mass in the northwestern shallow waters, second the eastern waters where the water depth is relatively deep among the study areas, third the middle wafters and fourth the western coastal waters around Yulchon. The all waters were nearly homogeneous vertically throughout the year due to the dominant tidal currents in that area. The waters where the amplitude of annual variations of the temperature and salinity was large were the northwestern shallow waters and small were the eastern deep waters.
