The se of this artlc1e are to review the transfonnation p1α:ess of the inter-firm systems in the ]apanese chemical fiber industry and to analyze the storical peeSS from the perspectives of “nns t organizational capabilities and pr띠uct charaεteristics Thro니gh the review, we find that so-call Keiretsu system, a kind of long-term lransaction systems has been utilized. only in the synthetic filament industry in the post 11 era. 1n llie rayon filament industry in the pre-vrWII era, market transaction was the major form of inter-[irm systerns. Market based inter-firm systems have been 50 llie major pattem in the pre- rayon staple jndustrγ and post-V. WII synthetic e industry though some rtion of the fiber was consum inside fiber firms tru-ough vertical integration.
