청암 박태준의 리더십 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 청암 박태준의 제철보국 및 교육보국의 사상을 살펴보고, 포항공대 설립과 운영을 중심으로 설립이사장인 박태준의 대학경영 리더십을 문헌연구를 통하여 고찰하는데 있다. 포항공대는 박태준의 ‘제철보국(製鐵報國)’에 기반한 ‘교육보국(敎育報國)’ 이념에 의해 설립되었다. 박태준의 제철보국 이념은 박정희 대통령의 ‘조국’근대화 이념에 기반한다. 박태준은 포항제철의 경영뿐만 아니라 포항공대의 경영에도 탁월한 성과를 이루어, 우리나라 고등교육의 발전에도 많은 영향을 미쳤다. 포항공대는 포항제철의 지원, 김호길 초대학장을 비롯한 교수들의 열정, 학생들의 도전정신 등 포항공대 구성원의 노력에 의해 ‘세계 수준의 연구중심대학’으로 성장하게 되었다. 또한 박태준의 경영철학과 탁월한 리더십이 포항공대의 성장과 발전에 주요한 핵심요인으로 작용하였다. 박태준은 연구 활성화를 위한 연구 환경 구축, 풍부한 장학 제도, 편리한 생활환경 등 포항공대에 지원을 아끼지 않았다. 즉 포항공대가 세계적인 대학으로 성장･발전한 것은 박태준의 교육보국 정신과 대학경영 리더십에 기인한다. 박태준의 포항공대 설립과 운영에 대한 경영 리더십을 검토해본 결과, 박태준의 포항 공대경영 리더십은 제철보국과 교육보국의 이념을 기반으로 하여, 대학의 특성이 반영된 리더십으로 비전경영･윤리경영･신뢰경영 및 권한위임이 핵심가치였다. 본 연구가 가지는 의의는 박태준의 경영 리더십을 대학경영 측면에서 고찰하였고, 박태준의 리더십을 다양한 분야에서 연구하는 계기를 제공하였다는 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the patriotic philosophy of T.J. Park regarding education and steel industry in Korea, and to further look at his leadership on university management focusing on the foundation and operation of Pohang University of Science and Technology(POSTECH). POSTECH was founded in 1985 on the vision of T.J. Park - “Contribution to the Country through Education,” which is based on his concept of “Contribution to the Country through Steel Industry.” Mr. T.J. Park’s concept of “Patriotism through Steel Manufacturing” is firmly based on the ideology of President Park Jung Hee — Modernization of the Fatherland. T.J. Park has made significant achievements to the development of Korean advanced education with the excellent growth of POSTECH as well as the successful management of Pohang Iron & Steel Co.(POSCO). POSTECH has developed as a world class research University with the support of POSCO, passion of professors including the First President Hogil Kim, students’ pioneering spirit and endeavor of all staff members. Moreover, the T.J. Park’s management philosophy and outstanding leadership have played a key role in the development of POSTECH. Park made generous supports for building a research environment, various scholarships and a convenient living environment, etc. In fact, the T.J. Park’s philosophy of educational patriotism and university management leadership functioned as the main factor in the growth of POSTECH. This research on T.J. Park’s leadership regarding POSTECH foundation and operation produced the following results. The core values of his business leadership on POSTECH are; 1) vision management, 2) integrity management, 3) trust management and 4) delegation of authority based on patriotism of education and steel industry in Korea. These 4 Core Values reflect characteristics of the Universities. The significance of this research is that T.J. Park’s business leadership has been investigated in terms of university management, and this study has provided an opportunity to examine his leadership in various fields.
