국문 초록

본 논문은 짐 데이터(Dator, Jim)의 네 가지 대안 미래(Four generic alternative futures)에 등장하는 변형(transformation)의 특성을 미래 이미지의 측면에서 분석한 연구이다. M. C. 에셔의 대표적인 목판화인 메타몰포시 스(Metamorphosis) 연작을 예로 들며 미래 변형 이미지의 속성을 유비 추론 하여 연구한 본 논문은 다음의 두 가지 주요 방법론을 적용하였다. 첫째, 표상(Representation), 접근(Access), 사상(Mapping), 적합(Adaptation), 학습(Learning)의 5단계 유추적 사고 과정을 통해 에셔의 판화 연작과 변형 미래 이미지의 관계성, 의미적 맥락을 분석하였다. 둘째, 이냐툴라 (Inayatullah, Sohail, 2004)의 ‘인과 적층 분석(Causal Layered Analysis (CLA))’에 등장하는 레벨 중 하나인 ‘신화/은유(Myth/metaphor)’를 변형 미래 이미지를 설명하는 컨텍스트로써 적용, 해석하였다. 에셔의 작품 세계가 지닌 방대한 미학적 깊이는 현대 수학, 건축, 음악, 문학, 문화 연구 등 인접 예술과 인문 분야에서 끊임없이 해석되고 있으며 본 논문은 이러한 해석의 지평에 ‘변형에 대한 본질적 탐색’이 자리하고 있다고 보았다. 에셔의 판화 연작은 미래 이미지의 본질적 변형성에 대해 고찰하게 하며 미래 이미지가 ‘아프락사스의 이미지’로도 간주될 수 있는 의미적 도약의 지점을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This paper is analysis research of characteristics of transformation shown in Four generic alternative futures by Dator, Jim in aspect of future image. In this paper, characteristics of future image were analogized, and M. C. Escher’s Metamorphosis Series was included as example. This paper applied two following methodologies. First, it analyzed relationship and semantic context between M. C. Escher’s Metamorphosis Series and future image through five stages of analogic thinking process which are Representation, Access, Mapping, Adaptation, and Learning. Second, myth/metaphor, one level of Casual Layered Analysis(CLA) of Inayatullah, Sohail(2004) was applied and interpreted as context explaining future images of transformation. Extensive and Aesthetic depth of M. C. Escher’s works is continuously interpreted in adjoined arts such as modern math, architecture, music, literature, cultural studies adjoined arts and humanities, and this research examined that ‘fundamental exploration of transformation’ is based on the horizon of these interpretations. This paper suggests that semantic goal of M. C. Escher’s Metamorphosis Series, which leads contemplation of fundamental transforming characteristics of future image, and makes it considered as image of Abraxas
