영문 초록

Traditionally, farming has exerted a deep influence not only on Korean economic development and social change, but also on the people lives and culture. Rice in particular, has maintained a role inseparable from civic life and has formend a unique part of Korean culture. In this regard, we must strive to restore the original tradition of Korean agriculture from an environmental-friendly viewpoint. Each unique tradition of farming has formed within the boundaries of its own specific climate and history, and as such must be respected as one of humankind’s intangible assets. It is high time that all those concerned take the progressive step of evaluating what kinds of benefits the goal of globalization has provided to the maintenance of agricultures intrinsic values, and decide whether the merits of diversity and safety are really compatible in the matter of agriculture. In conclusion, it is of vital importance that the future of Korean agriculture must never be decided by purely political and commercial considerations, lest we auction off the health and prosperity of our nation to the highest international bidder.
