정신건강 관심군에 대한 또래 학생들의 사회적 스티그마 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 중ㆍ고등학교에서 정신건강문제를 겪고 있는 관심군 학생에 대한 또래 학생들의 사회적 스티그마 현상을 밝혀 학교에서 실질적으로 개선되어야 할 학생정신건강정책에 대한 시사점을 도출하는데 목적이 있다. 이와 같은 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 2013년 교육부 지정 6개 시범운영지역 중 정책 취지에 맞게 가장 잘 추진하였다고 평가된 초록시 소재 2개 중ㆍ고등학교에서 관심군 학생과 같은 반 학생 7명을 대상으로 2014년 5월부터 12월까지 심층면접과 관찰을 통해 질적연구를 수행하였다. 연구결과 학생들은 관심군 학생들에 대해 친해지고 싶지 않은 다른 세계의 애들로서, 낮은 수준으로 평가하고, 무시하기와 무관심, 따돌림의 대상으로 사회적 스티그마를 보였다. 학생들은 사회적 스티그마 현상 속에서 타인을 배려하고 공감할 수 있는 마음의 여유를 찾기 어려웠으며, 또래들 간 서로 배척하는 행위를 교사의 책임으로 전가시키기도 하였는데, 이는 역설적으로 학생들은 교사의 관심과 지지를 필요로 한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이 연구는 학생정신건강정책에서 학생정서ㆍ행동특성검사가 관심군 학생을 조기에 발견하여 상담ㆍ치료를 지원하고 있지만, 정신건강문제에 대한 인식개선과 관심군 학생에 대한 배려와 지지에 대한 학교문화의 한계를 보여준 점에 의의가 있다. 이에 정신건강문제를 겪고 있는 사람들에 대한 인식개선과 상호배려하고 존중할 줄 아는 학교문화 개선을 위한 구체적인 지원방안이 필요함을 시사하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to clarify the social stigma phenomenon of peers’ students who are students classified as mentally health caution group in middle and high school and to suggest implications for student mental health policy which should be substantially improved at school. In order to accomplish this research goal, seven students in the middle school and high school students in Green City, who were evaluated as the best of the six provinces designated by the Ministry of Education in 2013, Qualitative research was conducted through interviews and observations from May to December 2014. As a result of the research, students showed social stigma as a target of low level, ignorance, indifference, and bullying as children of other worlds who did not want to get acquainted with the students classified as mentally health caution group. In the social stigma phenomenon, it was difficult for students to find a room of mind for consideration and sympathy for others. In addition, it was also revealed that the act of rejecting each other among the peers was transferred to the responsibility of the teacher, which paradoxically showed that the teacher ’s interest and support was needed. In this study, emotion and behavior characteristics check mental health policy were found early students classified as mentally health caution group and they supported counseling and treatment. However, It is significant that it showed the limitations of the school culture on the improvement of the awareness of the mental health problems and the consideration and support for the students classified as mentally health caution group. This suggests that specific support measures are needed to improve the awareness of those who are experiencing mental health problems and to improve the school culture to respect and respect each other.
