Romantic Attachment of American and Korean Adolescents

국문 초록

본 연구의 주목적은 미국과 한국 청소년의 낭만 애착유형(안정형, 거부형, 몰두형, 두려움형)을 알아보기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 이 두 연구대상들의 낭만 애착에 어떤 차이가 있을 것인가? 편의표집에 의해 109명의 미국 청소년, 117명의 한국 청소년들은 24개 다중문항 낭만 애착 측정도구(Bartholomew & Horowitz, 1991) 에 응답하였다. 주요 결과들은 다음과 같다. (1) 미국 청소년들의 낭만 애착유형은 거의 비슷하게 분포되었고(안정형 25.2%, 거부형 26.2%，몰두형 28.0%，두려움형 20.6%), 가장 많은 한국 청소년들이 안정형(36.6%) 낭만 애착，다음으로 거부형(24.8%), 두려움형(21.1%)，그리고 몰두형 (17.5%) 순으로 분포되었다. (2) 두 나라의 청소년들 사이에 네 가지 낭만 애착유형 모두에서 유의한 차이가 발견되었다. (3) 나이는 미국 청소년과 한국 청소년의 거부형 낭만 애착에 있어서 유의한 차이를 나타냈다. 끝으로 연구결과의 의의, 후속 연구를 위한 제언, 그리고 이러한 결과들이 교육관계자와 상담 및 심리치료에 주는 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The primary purpose of this study was to explore romantic attachment styles of American and Korean adolescents. Do Korean adolescents differ from American adolescents in their romantic attachment? A convenient sample of 109 American adolescents from two middle and high schools in Ohio State of the United States and 117 Korean adolescents from two middle and two high schools in Chungnam areas of South Korea were asked to report on the 24 multi-item romantic attachment measurement (Bartholomew & Horowitz, 1991). Results showed that four romantic attachment styles(secure, dismissing, preoccupied, fearful) for American adolescents were almost equally distributed. More than a third(36.6%) of Korean adolescents were classified as secure, followed by dismissing (24.8%), fearful(21.1%) and preoccupied(17.5%). Significant differences were found for all four romantic attachment styles between American and Korean adolescents. Also, age produced significance on only one attachment style(dismissing) between two groups. Implications and recommendations for future research were presented.
