‘용납할 수 없는 것’을 이미지화 한다는 것의 의미

국문 초록

포스트메모리를 구성하는 후대 남성 예술가가 느끼는 수치심과 죄책감의 시선은, 가해자 남성에게로 쉽게 전이됨으로써, 결과적으로 일본군 ‘위안부’에 대한 포르노그래피적 영상을 만들고 만다. 이때, 정작 이미지-서사에서 사라지는 것은 피해자의 시점, 언어, 그리고 말하기 주체로서의 가능성이다. 위안소를 지옥도로 재현하는 희생제의적 스펙터클 속에서 일본군 ‘위안부’는 삶의 구체성과 역사적 구체성을 잃고 추상화되고 신성화된다. 상상의 형상화로서 그것은 고통 의 전이를 통해 보는 사람들을 겁주고 협박하고 훈계하는 이미지다. 이 이미지가 고통과 분노를 불러일으키는 것은 폭력에 내재해 있는 외설성에 덧붙여 그 재현 과정이 외설적 이기 때문이다. 이러한 남성중심적인 가부장제적 서사-이미지는 고통의 스펙터클에서 ‘순수한 소녀’ 를 단순하고 순수했던 시절로, 고향-집-아버지에게로 돌려보내는 해원으로 직진한다. 극 장은 굿판이 된다. 그러나 20세기에 벌어진 가장 잔혹한 역사적 사건을, 근대성 전체를 사유하지 않고, 근대성이 제거된 탈역사적 시간대와 공간으로 돌려놓음으로써 해원한다 는 것만으로는, 역사의 현재적 의미를 가질 수도, 무능력한 정치 현실에 맞서는 유효한 집단기억을 구성할 수도 없다.

영문 초록

The sense of shame and guilt feeling by a later male artist who composes the post-memory is easily transferred to the perpetrator. As a result, it produces pornographic images of the Japanese Military Comfort Women . At this moment, disappearing from the image-narrative is the point of view of the survivor. In the spectacle of the sacrifice that reproduces brothels as hell, the Japanese Military comfort women are abstracted and sanctified by losing historical concreteness of life. It is a figuration of imagination that threatens, intimidates and admonishes viewers through the transfer of pain. This male-centered patriarchal narrative-image goes straight from the spectacle of suffering to the redemption that returns the ‘pure girl to simple, pure moments, home-house-father. But it is impossible to deal with the one of the most brutal historical events of the twentieth century without thinking about the whole of modernity. Just by releasing grudge by turning it into a post-historical time and space with modernity removed, it can not have a current meaning, and it can not constitute a valid collective memory against incompetent political reality.
