The purposes of this presentation are to review English education in Japanese public elementary schools and to try
to show future trends on English education in Japan. The speaker will tell the audience the history and the future
of English education in the elementary schools: the past, present, and future. In the presentation, there are three
main topics: the beginning of English education in Japanese public elementary schools, the present situation, and the
future trends.
