영문 초록

Chŏng Ryul-sŏng was born in Kwangju, Chŏnam province, Korea, in 1933. He went to China and participated in anti-Japanese combat as a member of the Palo Army(八路軍). He composed about 360 songs of various styles and subject matter 40 years. He is regarded as one of the most prominent composers and this reputation gave him the title of an international revolutionist. The March for the Palo Army , which he composed in 1939, became a liberation army song in China. The March for the People s Army , one of his later compositions, became the people s army song of North Korea and it was sung for a long time. He was famous as a composer of army songs in the two countries. Though Chŏng is one of the most important people in the contemporary history of China, especially in the contemporary music history of China, until recently little has been known about him in South Korea. Anti-communist sentiments have caused South Koreans to ignore this great musician, who glorified the spirit of the Korean people in a foreign land. In this thesis, I have attented to correct the misconceptions about Chŏng through presenting his family register and school register from his junior high school days. In addition, I have analyzed his music. A synthetic study of Chŏng Ryul-sŏng s compositional method will be accomplished in further studies. I hope this Lhesis will provide momentum for a deeper interest in and understanding of Chŏng Ryul-sŏng s life and music.
