세종 · 정조 영재성의 실증적 고찰 및 비교

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 뛰어난 군주이자 영재로 보편적으로 인정받고 있는 세종대왕과 정조의 영재성에 대한 실증적 자료들을 분석하여 영재로써의 세종과 정조를 비교하고자 하였고, 나아가 현대 영재교육에 대한 시사점을 도출하여 그 의미를 고찰하고자 함이다. 연구를 위하여 조선왕조실록, 홍재전서, 악학궤범, 보한재집, 훈민정음 등 1차 사료를 직접 번역한 번역본을 중심으로 자료를 수집하되, 세종과 정조의 영재성에 대해 직접적으로 언급하고 있는 자료를 주요 대상으로 하였다. 자료는 Renzulli(1978)와 Gardner(1999)의 영재성에 대한 정의를 종합하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 세종과 정조 모두 일반 지적 능력, 과제집착력, 언어 지능, 음악 지능, 창의성, 대인 관계 지능 등에서 우수한 영재성을 나타내었던 것으로 나타났다. 세종과 정조의 영재성에 대하여 세부적으로 비교 · 고찰해 볼 때, 언어 지능에서 세종은 언어학적으로, 정조는 언어 활용과 창작에서 우수하였고, 음악 지능에서 세종은 음악 창작에서, 정조는 음악 시스템 구축에서 우수한 영재성을 보여주었다. 또한, 세종이 우수한 발명을 위한 창의성을 소유하고 있었다면, 정조는 빼어난 신체 운동지능을 소유하고 있는 것이 대표적인 특징이라고 할 수 있다. 연구결과를 바탕으로, 우리의 사회적 · 문화적 · 역사적 특수성을 고려한 영재교육의 다각적인 방향성 모색을 위하여 세종과 정조의 양육방식의 차이, 민족에 따른 가정에서의 양육방식의 차이, 세종의 창의성 및 정조의 회복탄력성, 평범한 환경에서 살았던 영재들에 대하여 보다 심층적인 연구가 필요함을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to analyze empirical data in order to compare the natural giftedness of King Sejong and King Jeongjo, both of whom have been universally recognized as respected kings and figures of natural intelligence. Additional objectives considered the implications and the importance of the research for gifted education today. The primary data for this research was collected through ancient literary works written during the dynasties of King Sejong and King Jeongjo, including the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, the HongjaeJeonSeo, the AkHakGweBeom, the BoHanJaeJip and the HunMinJeongEum. From these works, the focus was narrowed down to specific data that directly mentioned the natural giftedness of King Sejong and King Jeongjo. The aforementioned data was analyzed using the definition of giftedness inspired by a combination of definitions from Renzulli (1978) and Gardner(1999). Results of this research showed that both King Sejong and King Jeongjo demonstrated outstanding giftedness in general intellectual ability, task commitment, verbal-linguistic intelligence, musical intelligence, creativity, and interpersonal intelligence. Particularly, in the area of verbal-linguistic intelligence, King Sejong excelled linguistically, while King Jeongjo demonstrated specific excellence in the use and creation of language. In the area of musical intelligence, King Sejong excelled specifically in musical creation, while King Jeongjo excelled in the construction of musical systems. The biggest difference, however, between King Sejong and King Jeongjo is that King Sejong demonstrated brilliant creativity as an inventor, while King Jeongjo demonstrated superb bodily-kinesthetic intelligence. Based on the results, further research is suggested in order to seek a multilateral directional approach to gifted education considering our social, cultural and historical specificity, as in the parenting styles of King Sejong and King Jeongjo, the difference in parenting styles in different families based on ethnicity, King Sejong’s creativity, King Jeongjo’s resilience, and the gifted people that lived in a normal environment.
