영문 초록

This study explores the development, nature, and the meaning of the massive and nation-wide immigrant marches occurred in the spring of 2006. The marches began as the protest movement against the Sensenbrenner Act that was passed in the House of the Representatives in 2005. But they were soon transformed into the immigrant rights movement. The marchers have maintained that all the immigrants regardless of the legal status, possess the universal human rights, rights as the workingmen/women. And they have declared that they are Americans, too. The marches became the stage for the declaration of the immigrants' rights. The marches also had greatly affected the Latino's self-identity. In spite of the diverse backgrounds of Latinos in America, they, as a racialized minority group, began to form a more cohesive and solid political identity working together for the common political cause.
