치매의 진단과 치료

국문 초록

치매란 정신박약이 아닌 사람이 뇌의 기질적 병변에 의하여 기억력장애를 비롯한 언어장애, 행동장애 및 기타 지적능력의 소실이 특징인 인지기능의 장애를 나타내는 후천적 임상증후군을 말한다. 치매의 원인은 매우 다양하나, 알쯔하이머씨병, 다발성 경색치매, 파킨슨씨병 등에 의한 치매가 비교적 흔하다. 따라서 치매의 진단에는 치매의 원인질병을 찾기 위한 노력이 중요하며 특히, 치유 불능 원인질병의 진단은 치유가능한 원인들을 모두 배제한 후에 고려해야 한다. 치매의 치료원칙은 첫째, 치료가능한 치매의 원인질환을 제거하고, 둘째, 지적장애를 최소화하기 위해 가능한 증상들의 치료를 시도하며, 셋째, 환자가족이나 환자를 돌보는 사람에게 지지 혹은 충고를 통한 치료적 도움을 주는 것이다.

영문 초록

Dementia is characterized by a loss of cogmitive and intellectual abilities severe enough to impair social, or occupational performance due to some disorder of the CNS. Dementia can be caused by any disease, drug or trauma. The most common cause of dementia is primary degenerative dementia of the Alzheimer's type and the next most common causative factor is multi-infarct dementia. The primary goal of treatment of dementia is to reverse or at least arrest the underlying pathophysiological cause. After this intervention, symptomatic(nutritional diet, proper exercise, recreational and activity therapy, and the treatment of associated medical problems) and the psychosocial(giving support and advice to the patient and the family) treatment must be provieded to the patient.
