국문 초록

몬테네그로는 발칸지역에 위치하고 있는 공화국중 가장 작은 공화국이며, 세르비아와 역사적으로 항상 같이한 특징을 가지고 있는 공화국이다. 몬테네그로는 구유고연방의 해체 시기에도 마지막까지 세르비아와 연방을 함께 구성하였으며 다른 공화국의 독립과 달리 세르비아와 평화로운 해체와 독립을 이루었다. 세르비아와 몬테네그로를 민족적으로 다른 민족으로 구분하는 것은 논쟁의 여지가 있는 문제이다. 역사적, 문화적, 종교적으로 몬테네그로는 항상 세르비아와 함께했으며 현재도 두 국가의 일반 민중은 서로가 다른 민족이라는 것을 명확하게 인지하지 못하고 있다. 세르비아인에게 몬테네그로인은 세르비아 방언을 쓰고, 세르비아 정교를 믿는 지역적으로 몬테네그로 지역에 거주하는 또 다른 세르비아인일 뿐이다. 일반 몬테네그로 민중 또한 자신들의 언어는 세르비아어이고, 종교는 세르비아 정교라 답하고 있다. 일부는 자신들을 민족적으로 세르비아인이라 답하기도 한다. 그러나 2006년 독립과 함께 몬테네그로 민족주의 엘리트 집단은 몬테네그로가 세르비아와 차별화되는 역사와 문화를 가지고 있는 독자적인 민족임을 내세우고 있다. 몬테네그로 민중이 가장 정체성의 혼란을 격고 있는 것이 세르비아와 차별화하기 어려운 언어와 종교의 문제이다. 언어와 종교의 차별성은 발칸지역에서 민족을 구분하는 가장 중요한 기준이다. 몬테네그로는 민족 정체성의 혼란과 세르비아와의 차별성 문제에 대한 해법을 종교독립과 언어독립에서 찾고자 한다. 이 연구는 몬테네그로 민족 정체성 문제를 종교와 언어 문제를 중심으로 정리해 보았고, 현재 몬테네그로 정부가 추진하고 있는 언어와 종교의 독립을 통한 몬테네그로 민족 정체성 확립 문제를 객관적으로 분석하고 평가해 보았다.

영문 초록

Montenegro was the smallest republic among the republics in the Balkans and in particular, it was always together with Serbia historically. Montenegro and Serbia formed a federation after the breakup of Yugoslavia and different from the independence of other republics, the isolation and independence from Serbia were peaceful. It is controversial to distinguish Serbia and Montenegro as different ethnic groups. Montenegro was always together with Serbia in history, culture, and religion and the people of both nations do not clearly see themselves ethnically different from each other. For Serbians, the people of Montenegro are just another Serbian using Serbian dialects, following Serbian Orthodox Church, and geographically living in the regions of Montenegro. General people of Montenegro also say the Serbian as their language and the Serbian Orthodox Church as their religion. Some people even consider them ethnically Serbian. However, Nationalist elite group of Montenegro asserts that Montenegro is ethnically independent having its own history and culture differentiated from Serbia’s. The core of their nationalistic movement is the independence of the religion and language with which the people of Montenegro mostly confused about their identity. This study organized the historical background of the ethnic identity confusion of the general people of Montenegro focusing on the issues in religion and language. It also organized and objectively evaluated the issues of the ethnic identity establishment through the independence of its language and religion currently pursued by the Montenegro government.
