This paper, while raising questions about the attempt of studying the overall unified theme of Luke-Acts largely on the basis of statistical data of a few distinctive words, suggests that the study of Luke-Acts should be depended upon the theme of the kingdom of God(ἡ βαοιλεία τοῡ θεοῡ), on which the author apparently puts much emphasis, and upon it's related concept within the literary context as well as upon the literary structure of the books which demonstrates the thematical coherence in the narrative context. The above argument can be justified in the study of Luke 18:31-34, in which the word 'kingdom of God' never appears, which demonstrating that several concepts(12 disciples, δώδεκα; Jerusalem, Ἰερουσαλήμ; the son of man, ὁ υἱὸς τοῡ ἀνθρώπου) in Luke 18:31-34 are connected to the concept of the kingdom of God conceptually. The concept of the kingdom of God is a central theological idea in the OT which shows the covenantal relationship between Yahweh and his people, although the term never appears in the OT. This provides an important clue for the argument of this paper. Luke uses the theme of kingdom of God significantly in deploying his theology: (1) In Luke 1:1-2:52, Luke portrays Jesus as the one who is to rule the eschatological kingdom of God eternally, and thus relates the concept of the kingdom of God to the Luke's christology(Son of God coming as the son of David); (2) In 3:1-9:50, Luke demonstrates Jesus as the one who summarizes his ministry as fulfillment of the kingdom of God(Luke 4:43), and who finally proclaims his disciples(δώδεκα) as the heir of the kingdom of God(Luke 6:13, 20); (3) In Luke 18:31-34, which belongs to the larger context of Luke 9:51-19:48(the third main section of the book), the concept of the kingdom of God plays an important role in the light of the observation that Jesus the subject of the covenant and the disciples the object of the covenant are the key elements in the covenantal relationship for the coming kingdom of God. This paper also deals with other related concepts(for example, Jerusalem, Ἰερουσαλήμ, the son of man, ὁ υἱὸς τοῡ ἀνθρώπου) which shows a thematic coherence with the OT by the theme of kingdom of God.
