국문 초록

진정한 의미의 앎이란 어떤 특정한 사실을 인지하고 있음이라기보다는 끊임없이 자기 자신보다 더 큰 진리, 자신의 습관보다 더 적합한 실천을 추구하려는 개방적 태도에 있다고 할 수 있다. 배움은 지성과 감성, 지성, 도덕성, 사회정치, 그리고 종교의 영역에 이르기까지 기존의 방식과 습관에 함몰되지 않고 끊임없이 더 큰 세계에로, 더 큰 자아에로 개방하는 자기초월적 태도다. 또한 텍스트와 콘텍스트를 나의 지성과 의지, 그리고 실천 속에 배게 하여 새로운 생명으로 잉태하고 마침내 새로운 비전으로, 가장 적합한 실천으로 탄생할 날을 고대하며 기다리는 것이다. 따라서 종교나 교육은 인격인 인간을 어떤 고정된 제도나 전통을 비판 없이 따르게 강압하는 것은 적합하지 않다. 마찬가지로 한 개인 역시 자신이 속해있는 문화나 전통, 자신의 고유한 경험에 집착하지 않고 무한히 자신을 초극하고 확장하려는 개방적 태도가 필요하다. 자기초월이라는 것은 과거의 전통과 문화를 버린다는 말이 아니고 그것을 그대로 간직하지만 그것에 함몰되지 않고 더 큰 세계와 통합한다는 의미에서 그렇다. 타자와 초자연에 대한 개방성을 통해서 자아는 실현될 것이다.

영문 초록

The true meaning of wisdom is not just knowing certain facts but is a frank and courteous attitude of constantly pursuing the larger truth than oneself and fitted practice of one's own habit. Erudition is a constant self-transcendent attitude toward a bigger world and ego without being destroyed by a fixed system and habits from intelligence, sensibility, morality, social policy to the domain of religion. Erudition makes text and context exist within our intelligence, will, and practice as new life and is waiting for the best birth of appropriate practice as a final new vision. Thus, religion and education which forces human-beings to follow some fixed system and tradition without critic are not good enough. Nonetheless, individuals, also, need to behave frankly in order to conquest and expand oneself without obsessing on tradition and culture they belong to and their unique experience. Self-transcendence means not only treasuring tradition and culture in the past without destroying them but also uniting with a bigger world. Ego will be realized through openness about others and supernaturalness.
