국문 초록

포은 정몽주는 '東方 理學의 宗祖'로 추앙되는 고려 말 조선 초의 대표적인 성리학자였다. 동시에 세상이 바뀔 수밖에 없음을 알면서도 자신의 절의를 위해 떳떳한 죽음을 맞이하였기에 절의의 상징으로 추앙되었다. 조선의 국왕들은 포은의 학문을 현양하고 그 절의를 확산하고자 하였다. 이것은 포은의 절의와 학문이 조선의 체제를 지탱하는 근간이었기 때문이다. 숙종의 어제에 나타난 인식도 '節義之臣'과 '東方理學之宗'이었다. 포은의 역사적 행위로서 '절의'와 학문적 위상으로서 '동방이학지종'에 대해 숙종은 일맥상통하는 논리로 파악하였다. 새로운 시대가 다가옴을 알면서도 고려를 위해 절의를 지킨 것은 포은이 익힌 학문의 실천이다. 숙종이 주목하는 것도 배운 것을 실천하는 學人의 참모습이었다. 숙종이 포은을 절대적으로 추앙한 것은 자신과 백성이 배워야할 사표였기 때문이다. 특히 숙종은 世俗的인 군주이며 유교의 의리명분을 앞세워 실천하는 世道의 주인이라는 의미에서 자신을 君師的 존재로서 인식하였다. 숙종이 자신은 물론 백성이 본받아야 할 師表로 포은을 설정한 것은 조선의 사회적 분위기와 학문적 풍토를 일신하고자 했던 것으로 이해할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Poeun Jeong Mong-Joo was a representative Confucian scholar in the end of Goryeo and the early of Joseon Dynasty who was revered as a founder of Korean Neo-Confucianism. He was also considered as a symbol of righteousness, at the same time, since he died augustly for his righteousness, even he knew that the world could not change. The kings of Joseon Dynasty endeavored to spread Poeun's studies and righteousness, because his righteousness and studies were the foundation of Joseon Dynasty system. Even Sukjong's awareness of him in his writings was 'a liege man to keep righteousness' and 'a founder of Korean Neo-Confucianism'. Sukjong considered 'righteousness' as Poeun's historical act and 'a founder of Korean Neo-Confucianism' as an academic status through the common logic. Keeping righteousness for Goryeo even he knew that the new age would come up, was to practice studies that he mastered. What Sukjong paid attention to, was also his true image as a scholar to practice what he learned. Why Sukjong revered Poeun unconditionally, was he was a model that he and the people should learn from. Particularly, Sukjong regarded him as a master king in a sense that he is a secular monarch and an owner of public morals to practice Confucian duty. It is understood why Sukjong set Poeun as a model that not only he, but also the people should follow, was to renew social atmosphere and academic climate of Joseon Dynasty.
