국문 초록

1990년대 후반 이후 조절이론은 제도 수렴론에 대한 비판적 대응으로 축적체제 및 조절양식의 역사적 이행에서 자본주의 다양성론으로 그 이론적 초점을 이동하였으며, 이 과정에서 제도적 보완성, 제도적 위계 등의 개념이 중심적인 지위를 차지하게 되었다. 본 연구는 조절이론의 “메타이론”적 성격을 주목하고 적극적으로 평가하는 한편, 동시에 이러한 이론적 초점의 이동이 발생시킨 새로운 이론적 과제들을 지적한다. 첫째, 실증 분석에서 제도 상호보완성과 제도적 위계 개념을 매개할 수 있는 개념틀의 확립이 필요하다. 둘째, 앞의 과제를 수행함에 있어서 권력관계와 계급 갈등을 유형화할 수 있는 기준을 마련함으로써 이들을 이론 내부로 체계적으로 끌어들여야 한다. 셋째, 축적체제 개념을 성장체제 개념으로 대체하지 말고, 그 개념적 잠재력을 확보하고 더욱 발전시켜야 한다.

영문 초록

Since late 1990's, responding to mainstream economists' argument for institutional convergence, the Theory of Regulation has moved its theoretical focus from historical transformation of mode of accumulation and regulation regime towards diversity of capitalism. In this process, concepts frameworks such as institutional complementarities and institutional hierarchies now occupy the central role. This paper underlines the contribution of the Theory of Regulation as a "meta-theory" and points out new theoretical challenges that have arisen from the displacement of theoretical focus. First of all, in their empirical application, the meta-concepts such as institutional complementarities and institutional hierarchy need to be complemented by intermediate concepts. Second, in order to do this, further theoretical works are required in order to develop new criteria that can help making typology of power relations and class conflicts. Finally, the concept of the accumulation regime should not be replaced with that of growth regime, but needs further developments to secure its theoretical potentials.
