고교유형에 따른 성취도 격차의 양상과 발생요인

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 국가수준 학업성취도 평가 2009중3자료와 2011고2자료를 학생수준에서 연계하여 우리나라의 학생들이 중학교를 졸업한 이후 4가지 유형의 고등학교(일반,자공,자사,외고)에 진학할 경우의 변화를 성취도의 관점에서 살펴보고,학교유형에 따른 성취도 격차가 어떠한 양상이며,그 발생 원인이 무엇인지를 탐색해 보고자 하였다. 표준점수를 통해 상대적 위치의 전반적 변화양상을 살펴본 결과 입학당시 학생들의 상대적 위치가 학교유형별로 큰 변동 없이 유지되었으나 영어에서는 외고에 진학한 학생들의 표준점수가 향상됨과 동시에 집단내 분산이 커지는 경향이 있었다.입학성적 분위별 고2성적 비교결과 상위권 학생의 경우 성적향상의 이유가 무엇이든 간에 결과적으로 어느 유형의 학교에 진학하느냐에 따라 차이가 발생하는 것으로 나타났다.하위 25%에 해당하는 하위권 학생들의 경우,입학성적을 통제하더라도 일반고의 고2성취도가 자공고보다 과목별로 2∼3점 정도 높았다.학력격차의 설명요인을 탐색하기 위한 다층모형 분석결과 고2학업성취도의 학교유형간 격차의 상당부분은 입학생들의 중3학업성취도가 설명하고 있었으며,입학성적,학교학습 및 학교 외 학습,학교 SES등의 변수를 통제한 이후 학교유형간 성취도 격차는 사라졌다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to investigate the achievement gap among different types of high schools. More specifically, this study linked 2009 (9th grade) and 2011 (11th grade) NAEA. result at student level and compared the change in achievement when students graduate middle school and advnaced to four different types of high schools (General, Autonomous private, Autonomous public and Foreign language high schools). Comparisons of standardized score slowed that student's relative standings did not change significantly across different types of high schools. However in English, students who advanced to foreign language high schools showed more progress in relative standings and inflated within-school achievement variation at the same time. Comparison of 11^thgrade achievement within 9^th grade achievement quintile showed that, among high-achieving students at high school entrance, their 11^thgrade achievement differed depending on the types of high schools they advanced. For low-achieving students, general high school student's 11^th grade score was point higher than autonomous public high school even after additional control for 9^th grade score. Multi-level mood for exploring the factors related to achievement gap revealed that, 11^th grade achievement gap among different types of high schools was mostly explained by the difference in 9^th grade score. After taking into account the difference in 9^thgraede score, within-school and out-of-school learning factors and school SES, the achievement gap among different types of high schools disappeared.
