영문 초록

Multiculturalism has been used as a descriptive term to refer to the simple fact of cultural diversity. Korea's rapid industrialization and liberalization policy in 21th century has boosted the migration of labor force expansion. The influx of immigrants is accelerating among 140 million foreigners to stay in the country, with Muslims comprising 10 percent. In the past, Southeast Asia and Central Asia have been the source of the influx of labor as a workforce; however, the number of foreign students from the Middle East and North Africa region has recently been increasing. This might be an evidence of South Korea's multicultural society, and presents the challenge of keeping our social identity while also embracing Islam with a tolerance and cultural pluralism based on the recognition that traditional Korean values would be preserved. The paper focuses on providing opportunities for immigrants and native Koreans to communicate and interact to create social integration despite cultural differences. I adapted the CAGE model in order to predict the process of adaptation of Muslim migrants in Korean society through the hierarchical analysis and multifaceted evaluation. The results were based on native Koreans’ opinions of Muslims residing in our country. I also conducted a parallel investigation to identify similarities and differences in order to define social integration policy by quantitative element content and qualitative factors.
