영문 초록

Abraham is known to be the progenitor of the three monotheistic religions Judaism, Christianity and Islam that originated in the East Mediterranean region. The stories of Abraham’s life are told, however, with different views and emphasis in the Scriptures of these religions. The similar and different descriptions of Abraham/Ibrahim in Judaism and Islam draw one’s attention in particular. The present study examines the three stories of Abraham in the Qur’an and compares them with parallel texts in the Miqra’. The study shows that the stories present three different cases. The first story of Abraham’s controversy over idolatry shows some unmistakable differences between the Qur’an and the Miqra’ despite the common themes and content. The second story of Abraham’s guests demonstrates the close similarity between them. The third story of Abraham and Ishmael in Mecca turns out to be unique. The Qur’anic version of the story does not have a match in the Miqra’. The comparative study of these selected stories in the Qur’an and in the Miqra’ show the influence of the Miqra’ic on the Qur’an in general. However, the Qur’an seems to reveal its own stories which may be regarded as a creation of new Islamic traditions.
