영문 초록

Arab film industry has prospered during the last several decades. However, a thorough scientific research on it has not been found. Thus, this paper aims at examining Arab and Middle Eastern films in order to understand what the main culture codes are represented in the films. Quantitative culture code approach has enabled us to conduct more objective and reliable analysis on various cultural phenomena. This is also an attempt to quantify and standardize the emotional features of any cultural phenomenon. Through this analysis, films and other cultural contents can be more scientifically measured. This study collected the most popular 20 films between 2009 and 2011 and examined the scenarios of the films on the framework of 4 categorizations: descriptive, constructive, motive and emotive. Furthermore, this research quantified the culture codes into 6-dimensional attribute codes. Through these quantitative analysis, this paper would extract how different the Arab cultural codes are from those of the West.
