영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the historical and present-day confrontation and conflicts on American Identity, which have been the eternal themes of American studies and the major problems through the long history of America because America has been formed with the various tribes in the world. To show the reality of the above phenomena, two subjects are selected: the severe war over history education in the schools in the United States and the possibility or necessity of change on the American identity which comes from the recent change of racial composition with the rapid increase of Hispanic since 1990s. The several viewpoints and preferable policies on the change and possibility in the future of American society are suggested.
