Multicultural families are now growing rapidly in Korea. Korean single men who were proved unsuccessful among Korean women are now looking beyond the Korean territory for their future wives. And foreign women who want to improve their quality of living also try to marry Korean men. The rise of multicultural families is new phenomenon in Korea. The newly formed families confront a variety of problems, included are adjusting to the Korean society, post-marriage conflicts, and problems associated with child rearing. Many scholars have tried to provide a solution for the problems that multicultural families come to face. But the writer focuses instead on providing an alternate paradigm. This research on marriage migrant women is held in order to consolidate their intercultural competences and maximize their contributions to the overseas community development in the long run. The cultural knowledge and networks of the marriage migrant women, when put into use for the community development in their mother country, will improve Korea’s contribution to these nations. A member of the OECD, Korea should pay a portion of their GNI (Gross National Income) as ODA (Official Development Aids) to help the developing countries. When the multicultural families actively engage in their roles in bridging the overseas community development, the Korean government will achieve a low-cost and high efficient structure in foreign investment as well as the lowering of entry barriers. The consolidation of the intercultural competences among the marriage migrant women will also lead to their children having a better chance of developing their intercultural competences to become global leaders. This study tries to design a training program for the purpose of consolidating the intercultural competences of the marriage migrant women. And in order to build up a training program that fully incorporates the situations from which the marriage migrants originate as well as their adjustment strategies, the writer gathered information from the marriage migrant women, focusing on their recollection of their home country and their current adjustment processes. To deepen the understanding of marriage migrant Filipinas and their home country, a multicultural family accompanied me on my visit the Philippines. During our stay, the wife, originally from Mindanao, Philippines was of great assistance to our research. I visited a number of households to interview the relatives of the marriage migrant women. The training program designed for community development in the Philippines is based on the acquired information regarding their community lives. The training program includes: language learning, socio-cultural adjustment, marriage relationship, child rearing, job training, community development. It promotes theoretical as well as practical learning in Korea before going to the Philippines. Also taught are lessons on the Filipino society and culture. Marriage migrant women are learners as well as teachers. The training program facilitates curriculum development, enabling a holistic learning for the children of multicultural families. Although education is one of the greater concerns to the families, they are still unable to reach the level of learning atmosphere that average Korean family enjoys. Embedded in the lack of adequate learning is the possibility of the children of multicultural families growing into a non-adjusting group with negative attitudes toward the Korean society. The inability to overcome the identity crisis, inevitable in their teenage years, will certainly not let the children reach their full potential. In that case, our society as a whole might lose the great opportunity of applying their intercultural competences in the area of international politics, international relations, and trade.
