영문 초록

This study aims to provide a comprehensive framework for the relationship between Korean students’ use of TOEIC listening strategies and their TOEIC listening achievement. The purposes of this study were: 1) to explore the relationship between the use of TOEIC listening strategies and TOEIC listening achievement; 2) to identify the differences in the use of TOEIC listening strategies between more proficient and less proficient students; and 3) to test whether linguistic proficiency moderates the use of TOEIC listening strategies in TOEIC listening comprehension achievement. The data for this study were collected from a questionnaire and two sets of TOEIC test scores. One hundred eighteen students participated in the study. The current research revealed several important points. Some parts of listening strategy use played positive roles in listening comprehension. The higher listening proficiency level group used all of the listening strategies more actively than the lower proficiency group. Listening proficiency did not have a moderate effect on the students’ use of listening strategies in relation to their listening achievement. This study implies that teaching listening strategies can be an effective way to raise students’ listening achievement.
