英祖의 御製詩文에 나타난 圃隱에 대한 認識

국문 초록

영조가 포은 정몽주와 관련하여 지은 시문이 많지는 않다. 역대 조선의 국왕들이 포은을 현양했던 것처럼 영조 역시 포은을 백성들의 사표로 삼고자 하였다. 영조가 주목한 것은 善竹橋詩의 표현처럼 포은이 지닌 ‘道德’과 ‘精忠’의 상징성이었다. 御製詩帖에서는 포은에 대한 직접적인 언급이 많지 않다. 포은의 후손이나 愼守勤과 관련하여 영조가 품고 있던 포은에 대한 인식이 드러난다. 포은의 후손에 대한 관심과 우대는 영조의 마음에 자리하고 있는 포은에 대한 尊慕의 정도를 알 수 있다. 또 愼守勤의 충절을 ‘心正志高’와 ‘古今同忠’이라 하여 포은에 견주고 있는데, 이것은 영조가 인식하였던 고금의 역사에서 포은이 지닌 위상을 보여주는 예이다. 御製冊에서는 보다 적극적으로 포은에 대한 생각을 드러내고 있다. 善竹橋詩의 일화를 비롯하여 충절과 도덕의 사표로 포은을 인식하였다. 영조가 말한 도덕은 우리 유학의 宗匠으로서 포은에 대한 존모의 정서였으며, 포은의 절의는 역사의 귀감으로써 국가경영의 요체라고 생각했다. 영조는 당시 현실을 時流를 좇아 몰려다니고 침묵과 아첨이 가득 찬 세상이며, 그 현실 속에서 영조 자신만이 홀로 깨어 있다고 인식하였다. 따라서 국왕으로서 자신의 의지를 기탁할 만한 典範이 필요했고, 그 전범을 포은으로 설정하였다. 영조의 존모는 개인적 숭앙에 그치지 않고, 이를 통해 백성을 교화하고 사회를 통합할 수 있는 정치술로 활용하였다. 더욱이 임금이자 백성의 스승인 君師를 자처했던 영조에게 포은의 道德과 精忠은 자신이 추구할 궁극적인 귀결점이었다.

영문 초록

There is not much Simun of King Youngjo related to Poeun Chung Mong-ju. As the Kings of many generations in Joseon made Poeun famous, King Youngjo also intended to make Poeun the role model for the people. What Youngjo focused on was the symbolism of ‘morality’ and ‘loyalty’ of Poeun as expressed in Seon-juk-kyo si. In Uje-sichup, there is not much direct mentioning about Poeun. The perception of Youngjo about Poeun related to the descendent of Poeun or Shin Soo-geun is revealed. His interest and special treatment towards the descendent of Poeun enables one to know how much he respected Poeun in his mind. In addition, he expressed the loyalty of Shin Soo-geun with the words, ‘Shim-jung Ji-go’ and ‘Go-geum Dong-chung’ to compare with that of Poeun, which is an example of the status of Poeun during all ages which Youngjo perceived. In Uje-chaek, the consideration about Poeun is actively revealed. Including the anecdote of Sun Juk Kyo Si, he perceived Poeun as the role model of loyalty and morality. The morality mentioned by Youngjo was the emotion of respect towards Poeun as leader of our Confucianism, and also, he thought that the integrity of Poeun is the key factor of management of the nation as the role model of history. At that time, Youngjo perceived that the world is full of people following trends and showing silence and flattery, and in such reality, he perceived that he was the only awakened person. Therefore, as the King of the nation, he needed a role model whom he could rely his will, and as such role model, he selected Poeun. Youngjo’s such respect did not stop at personal respect and admiration, but through this, he utilized it as political technique which could reform the people and integrate the society. Besides, to Youngjo who called himself Kun Sa, the King as well as the teacher of the people, the morality and loyalty of Poeun was the ultimate result he pursued.
