This article examines the talks between China and Japan relating to the repatriation of Japanese colonist from China to Japan, and talks between Taiwan and Japan about the repatriation of Chinese from Japan to China in 1950's. First, the article considers how the talks on repatriation on Japanese from to Japan between China and Japan was developed by through negotiation between the Chinese Red Cross Society and three civilian group(Japan-China friendship Association, Japan Peace Committee, and Japanese Red Cross Society, the so-called 'three group talks', one of the people's diplomacy). Although, three group talks method was avoided by the Japanese government, it was carried through and further intensified in the talks in Beijing in 1953. Also, the three group talks method made the repatriation of Chinese from Japan to China possible without any specific or formal negotiation and treaty. I suggest that what made possible the repatriation was not so much the talks between China and Japan, as the talks between Taiwan and Japan. This study explores how Japan persuaded diplomatically Taiwan to connive at repatriation of Chinese residents in Japan to China, with the aim of achieving the repatriation of Japanese from China. The Japanese government camouflaged the departing vessel to carry Japanese from China as a vessel chartered by JRCS to ship Chinese residents in Japan to China. There were some problems in shipping Taiwanese Chinese to China and Japanese on their way back to Japan. However Japan persuaded Taiwan to permit Japan to transport Taiwanese Chinese and Chinese remains to China. Second, this article raises the implication that the talks between China and Japan and the three group talks method inspired much influence other talks on repatriation of Japanese war prisoners and orphans, co-investigation of missing Japanese, visit of CRCS delegation to Japan in the latter half of 1950's, and even to the talks between USSR and Japan in the end of 1953. Finally, I believe that this study might reveal a deeper insight into the studies on the talks between North Korea and Japan relating to the repatriation of Japanese from North Korea to Japan in 1956, and Koreans from Japan to North Korea in 1959. North Korea proposed Japan to have two group(Japan-North Korea Association, JRCS) and North Korea Red Cross talks on repatriation of Japanese applying the three group talks method of the 1955 talks. However, Japan tried to avoid that method of talks, and changed it to so called commissioner method by which an officer of J-NK Association joined to the delegation members of JRCS as a commissioner. This shows how Japan tried to break with the framework of people's diplomacy led by china and North Korea. From that point, Japan urged the International Committee of Red Cross to become involved in the repatriation of Koreans residents in Japan to North Korea, ignoring almost always and soothing sometimes the fierce opposition of South Korea in the latter half of 1950's.
