국문 초록

오늘날 논의가 이어지고 있는 평생교육학의 기초정립을 위해 이루어야 하는 가장 기초적인 과제 중의 하나는 평생교육의 역사를 연구하는 것이다. 이러한 작업을 통해 명백한 역사적 사실들을 바탕으로 현상과 관련된 일반적인 이론 도출이 가능하며 현실적인 대안 마련을 위한 교훈도 얻을 수 있기 때문이다. 그런 의미에서 본 연구는 한국 평생교육학의 기초정립을 위해 시도된 역사연구로서, 한국 사회교육의 특성에 대한 종합적인 고찰과 향후 연구방향 모색을 위해 그간의 한국 사회교육사의 연구동향 및 성과에 대해 검토하였다. 한국교육학술정보원(KERIS)을 중심으로 수집된 연구물(총 548편)을 중심으로 통계적인 정량적 분석과 주요 연구물 중심의 정성적 분석을 종합적으로 실시하였다. 그 결과, 한국 사회교육사 연구 동향의 특성으로는 한국 사회교육사에 대한 전문적 연구의 부족과 연구대상 시대, 실천유형 및 연구내용에 있어서의 편향성이 나타났다. 그리고 한국 사회교육사 선행연구를 살펴보는 과정에서 도출된 ‘한국 사회교육’의 특성으로는, 첫째, 사회교육의 기능주의적.체제유지적 성격의 점진적 강화, 둘째, 사회교육 제도화 과정 중의 민간주도적 성격의 약화, 셋째, 시대상황별 주류 사회교육 부각에 있어서의 경향성을 들 수 있다. 이러한 사실들을 바탕으로 향후 사회교육사 연구를 위해서는 시대적인 면에서 균형잡힌 연구가 이루어져야 하며, 실천유형면에서 다양하고 새로운 연구주제가 발굴되어야 하고, 보다 다양한 연구방법의 시도 및 교육역사사회학적.다학문적 연구접근방식이 활용되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This article is a historical review which attempts to set up the academic basis of adult education in Korea. The goal of this study is examining a trend and outcome of the historical study in Korean adult education up to recently to consider the characteristic of Korean adult education and to grope for the direction in historic study of Korean adult education afterwards. Total 544 articles about the history of Korean adult education were analyzed in the aspect of quality and quantity As a result, we can point out the lack of professional researches on historical study and some unequal distribution on the period(the time of Enlightenment and Japanese colonial rule of Korea), type(consciousness raising) and content(activity-centered history) of researches about the history of Korean adult education And the characteristics of Korean adult education can be summarized as follows: First, the adult education has been strengthened in its functional character for social stability and maintaining the political system. Second, The will of people for adult education has been weakened in the progress of institutional development. Third, there is a rule in the change of main adult educational type through the period. This review makes the following suggestions for the coming historical researches of Korean adult education: First, we should balance the studies in period. Second, we should discover various and novel themes in each type of practice. Third, we should try to apply more various methods and approaches such as historical sociology and multidisciplinary ways.
