통영 방언의 불규칙 활용 연구

국문 초록

본고는 불규칙 활용을 다루는 데에 있어 전시기로부터의 변화를 예측할 수있는 방안을 염두에 두고, 그 어간의 기저형이 재구조화를 통해 통시적 음운 변화 이전의 교체를 반영한다는 관점을 견지하면서 현대국어의 ‘ㄷ’, ‘ㅂ’, ‘ㅅ’ 불규칙 동사의 기저형 설정 문제에 대해 논의, 이를 바탕으로 통영 방언의 불규칙 활용의 특징을 고찰하였다. 본고에서 설정한 ‘ㄷ’, ‘ㅂ’, ‘ㅅ’ 불규칙 동사의 기저형은 각각 /X {ㄷ～르}-/, /X x{ㅂ～우}-/, /X {ㄷ～으}-/이다. 통영 방언에서는 이 세 불규칙 중 ‘ㅂ’ 불규칙이 존재하지 않는데, 이 방언에서는 중세국어의 기저형 /Xㅸ-/으로부터 자음어미와 결합하는 어간형 /Xㅂ-/과 모음어미와 결합하는 어간형 /X우-/ 둘 중의 하나로 그 기저형이 단일화되는 방향으로 재구조화되었다. 특히 ‘ㅅ’ 불규칙 동사는 그 어간형이 /X으-/일 때 모음동화규칙이 적용되어 ‘-으-’가 X의 모음과 같은 형태로 동화되며, 이러한 ‘ㅅ’ 불규칙은 기원적으로 ‘ㅂ’, ‘ㄱ’을 어간말음으로 가졌던 동사에까지 확대되는 경향을 보인다.

영문 초록

In examining irregular conjugation, this paper adopts an approach that predicts changes from an earlier period. By taking a view that reflects alternations before the onset of diachronic phonological change via restructuring of the underlying form of the verb root, we discuss the problem of how to determine the underlying of the t-, p- and s-irregular verbs in modern Korean in order to understand the features of the irregular conjugation in Thongyeng dialect(subdialect of South-eastern dialect). The underlying forms of t-, p- and s-irregular verbs assumed in this paper are /X {t～lu}-/, /X {p～wu}-/, /X {t～u}. Of these three irregular verb-types, Thongyeng dialect is lacking p-irregular verbs. In this dialect, Middle Korean underlying forms in /XW-/ were restructured and simplified as either /Xp-/ before consonant-initial endings or /Xwu-/ before vowel-initial endings. In particular, s-irregular verbs, when their root form is /Xu-/, undergo vowel assimilation whereby the ‘-u-’ assimilates to the same form as the vowel in X; s-irregular verb roots like these show a tendency to extend to verbs which originally ended in p and k.(Korea University).
