사진의 교육학적 의미

국문 초록

본 연구는 사진이 지니는 교육학적 의미를 탐색하기 위해 사진기호학의 개념들을 수용․ 재해석하여 사진에 내재된 교육적 의미맥락을 밝혀보려는 시도이다. 따라서 사진기호학의 도상(icon), 상징(symbol), 지표(index) 개념을 수용하여 교육학적으로 새롭게 이해하였으며, 미국에서 활용되고 있는 어린이를 위한 사진프로그램인 “Literacy Through Photography(LTP)”를 소개하고 분석하여 사진 및 그와 연관된 활동의 교육적 의미를 해석하였다. 또한 LTP 프로그램을 분석한 결과를 통해 사진이 지니는 교육학적 의미와 효과를 살펴볼 뿐만 아니라, 더 나아가 이러한 연구결과가 사진교육에 주는 시사점을 제시하고자 하였다. 이러한 시도는 사진의 교육적 역량을 탐색하는 기회가 될 것이고, 사진학에서 수행하고 있는 사진 교육을 새로운 관점에서 비판적으로 평가하게 될 것이며, 사진과 사진학 및 교육학 사이의 의미 있는 관계에 대한 심층적 이해를 탐구할 계기를 제공해줄 것이다. 더 나아가 인접학문과 활발한 상호교류를 통해 관심영역을 넓혀가고 있는 교육학이 사진학과 연계하여 사진교육학에 대한 이론 구성 및 실천방식에 대한 실질적 노력을 시도하게 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

In the era of visual communication, interest of children toward photographic education has been rapidly increased. Progress of digital camera technology and development of its process caused easy access and expression with photography. And it is also suitable method of expression for recording of individual lifestyle or activities. It is time to prepare new educational paradigm for those children who are mostly more familiar to visual communication and reaction than text. Function and meaning of photographic media need educational researches and realistic applications to supply effective visual educational methods. Photography as an educational tool had been regarded as a supplementary method, but it is necessary to develop its value in the aspect of education for those who will eventually experience more visual environment. However, photography as a tool of visual education hasn’t been seriously researched and developed, compare to other art related education. For effective application as an educational tool, development of potential possibilities and academic research are necessary. This thesis mainly focuses on establishment of photographical education methods by semiotic approach of photography. For effective research, concept of ‘Icon’,‘Symbol’ and ‘Index’, which are the basic concept of semiotic photography, has been considered. And also photographic education program “LTP: Literacy Through Photography”, which is utilizing for child education, was researched and connected in this project. By understanding ‘LTP program’ meaning and effect of photography as a tool of education was considered and its implications were supplied.
